Internet Connection Question

I've brought my laptop into work and plugged in my internet cable. It says that the local area connection is connected yet I cannot access the internet. I was able to do this the other day by just plugging in and opening the browser but not today. I get the usual message 'the page cannot be displayed'. When I open 'my network places' it tells me that 1394 network adapter and local area connection are both working. Anyone any ideas?

Try restarting the laptop with the network cable plugged in.
Also right click on 'Local Area Connection' in 'Network Places' and select 'properties'. Double click on 'TCP/IP Internet Protocol' and make sure everything is set to '.....automatically'.

Try opening a command prompt and typing in

    ipconfig /flushdns

Hit enter, after its done reboot the laptop and see if it's working.

also make sure in "internet options" that your homepage is reachable and not your "intranet" homepage.
