Hi all, anyone know if Lidl or Aldi sell golf shoes? Need a pair for this evening so don't want to spend a fortune on them. Thanks, R

All I can say is you get what you pay for.

No use spending €20 on a pair of shoes that are going to leak after a few rounds when you are playing in rain or damp grass.

You would pick a decent pair of Footjoy, Nike, Adidas for around €70 I say.

I have a few pair of Footjoy's and can't complain one bit about them as they have never let one once.

Agree with the Footjoys. Out playing today in the lashings of rain and I could dry myself with my socks, bone dry. Also comfortable to boot.

Elverys are selling Hi Tech Drytechs (black) for euro50 and Nike (black and white) for euro50 and plain black for euro60. They're all guaranteed waterprrof for 1year.

I'm in the same boat as I need to buy a pair, but don't want them to be the most expensive pair of shoes that I own.

BTW, whats the most popular ? Do most people wear plain black or the black and white?

i can gurantee you those shoes are showerproof but won't stand up to wet heavy rough, when we used to sell shoes back in 2000 you'd be looking at £75 for a good pair, nowadays i reckon your lookin at €150 and well over for the top of the lin
footjoys came good after a few years in the wilderness, you wouldn't believe the amount of pairs we took back that were falling apart after a few months, but whatever you spend on them now is worth it, adidas also have a nice shoe in the Tour 360 thats about €160 but should last you a good long time and no sweaty socks after. you can get shoes for cheap but they aren't worth a damn in the soaking heavy rough, not to mention most waterproofs at that price are rubber uppers which makes your feet sweat

EDIT: Etonics do a nice shoe in the dri-lite its about the 120-100 euro mark very good shoe and more affordable than the others, a grade above the perrenial footjoy favourite the AquaLite

I couldn't agree more. It definitely worth spending an extra few quid on a good pair. I learnt my lesson years ago when i got a cheap pair but shortly after the sole fell off after seven holes.

I gotta say the one thing i don't do is skimp on shoes. You end up with WAY too much pain if they don't fit you right!!

Just skimp on the tops is it?;)

Quite the oppposite, just because I have my opinion on something does not mean you have to keep bringing it up. Grow up.

I would have to agree on not skimping on shoes. I used to buy cheaper end of the shoe range. I hit it lucky 5 years back and won a pair of Footjoy Gelfusion shoes and they have been brilliant, only just started to let in some water now. So in the market now for a pair and will be looking for something decent.

I recently had a pair of FJ's replaced due to a water getting in. Before that I had a pair of Ecco goretex. The main difference I found between cheap and expensive shoes is purely weight.. You won't notice good shoes after a while, but cheap shoes usually weigh a tonne!

Obviously a member of The Grange, always soggy down there.

Actually Grange is pretty much always dry since the drainage/new greens work was completed.
Only closed for frost/snow nowadays, never for rain/flooding.

Remeber chatting to a greenskeeper from the grange at a friends wedding can't think of his name but he did say they were closed far less than the national average for flooding somewhere around 15 -20 days in a year as opposed to average of 35

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,367 ✭✭✭✭GreeBo

    Was that recently?
I honestly cant remember the last time we were closed due to flooding.

I can't agree with you there! Comfort is the key. I have FJ PRO's and they are by far more comfotable than any of the cheaper shoes that I had previously. A friend of mine who was always a dedictaed cheap golf shoe man 'cos "shoes are wrecked in a year anyway" bought FJ PRO's last year and he said he'll never wear cheap shoes again.

Waterproofing varies depending on how well you look after the shoes and how much use they get etc

Had a pair of hi -tecs for the past year thinking they were great until recently the lining started to give way.... 3rd hole 2 blisters on the one heel!!!! Would have rather finished the round bare foot than go through that again... was up north recently and bought a pair of slippers ''adidas ad75's''

Are grey and white, look the biz and are soo light, adidas will stand over them being 100% waterproof for a year, all for 50 sterling.......

css's point was based on the comfort, you picked it up incorrectly, heavy shoes are uncomfortable to wear. that said there are a lot of **** shoes that are very comfortable, so it's comfort at the upper end of the market that counts

greebo think it was about a year and a half ago(some friend, i can't remember her wedding)

Not I. Carlow, life goes on outside Dublin. ;) We're closed for frost more than waterlogging. It's on top of a lot of moneys worth of sand..

Yep I was commenting on comfort. I tried on a pair of the Aldi shoes, my dad bought, and my first impression, was f*ck these are heavy.. Ok so maybe it's just me, and i'm too fussy, but there's nothing worse than walking for hours with sore feet! Having said that I broke a pair of new FJ's during the west coast challenge, and talk about the soles of your feet on fire!!
