    The 4x4 Challenge for Charity in aid of Temple Street Children's Hospital takes place this weekend, October 7th and 8th, and it is hoped that in excess of €12,500.00 will be raised by the event.
    Last year, the inaugural year, over €7,000.00 was raised and the event was a great success.
    There will be twenty five teams taking part (each team is two people, a driver and navigator, in a 4x4 vehicle) and the course takes in the north west of the country from Clare up to Donegal and as far inland as Cavan. The exact route will not be revealed until Saturday morning and SatNav/GPS is banned in favour of traditional map reading skills. Although a lot of the course takes us over normal roads a large part will be off road (on tracks for which permission to drive has been sought and granted) and will only be accessible to 4x4 vehicles. For the 4x4 community in Ireland it is our way of 'giving something back' and is a highlight of our year.
    Each team has already paid an entrance fee and has pledged to raise a minimum of €500.00 (the minimum sponsorship required to take part) and every single cent of the money raised will go straight to Temple Street Childrens Hospital with the main beneficiary being the project for the new CT scanner.

    Hi Eamon,
    Long time since you posted the above but for them interested well the 2013 4x4challenge takes place for Temple Street again this year THIS WEEKEND.

    fOR ANY AND ALL WELLWISHERS THIS YEARS EVENT STARTS FROM THE ABBEYCOURT HOTEL NENAGH, THIS FRIDAY EVENING.

    It finishes in the Slieve Russell hotel cavan on Sunday evening after covering approx 700kms over the weekend.

    So if you see a band of approx 30 eclectic jeeps down your boreen dont worry your not being invaded by the Mujadeen. Give them a friendly wave they are doing good.
