Cloning an underground car park access beeper

Apologies to mods in advance as I'm not sure where to put this, but does anyone know if it can be done and, if so, where to go?

It's not in connection with anything illegal; I'm in a two bed flat with one parking space and my flatmate has a gotten a moped which he also, not unreasonably, wants to park in the garage of the apartment block. I've asked the landlord for a second copy but he said he has tried to get one from the management company before, but they are 'very unreasonable people' and will not provide a second.

It didn't occur to me at the time to ask him to report it lost/stolen and request another one, which would seem to be obvious thing to do. However, he has implied on a number of occasions that he strongly favours the 'hands off' approach to landlording and, as my lease is up for renewal and would be prime candidate for a hike, I rather not get classed as a high maintenance tenant.

It's a small, light-weight, box about the size of a 10-pack of cigarettes with two buttons which obviously emits a frequency to a receiver at the gates when the button is pushed. I'd imagine it's a fairly simplistic piece of equipment that, if the frequency at which it emits could be detected, could be easily replicated by someone in the know.

    Any ideas?

    Try the engineering forum.

Can it be opened? I have one for a place that the code can be changed with little switches on the PCB. If so, find the model number (twill be on the PCB), order one and program it

Mind you, this is an old'ish one, newer ones prob programmed other ways

Apparently with old car security systems you could call someone on their mobile and if your friend put the phone beside the car and you clicked the beeper intoo the phone on the other end the car would unlock.

Needless to say, this no longer works in modern cars, but as for your situation, I'd try simply recording the "sound" with a tape recorder and seeing if it worked.

i was under the impression that a landlord couldn't kick a tenant out or even enter the apartment as long as they had paid their rent?

unless that's only while the lease applies?

you need something that reads the frequency of the opener. once you know that, you can just go and google how to make your own

I can't think of any offhand, but there are companies who make these little transmitters. Order one, open the one you have, check the dipswitches for each button, then set them the same way on the new one. Hey presto, you have a second gate-opener..

Most of the modern ones require that you know the engineering code for the gate/door receiver, and are programmed from that.

Waste of time trying to clone one, as most apartment complexes have had major problems with people cloning transmitters and have taken to using ones with rolling codes and so forth to alleviate this problem.

Dow Electronics, Pasadena, CA, USA, are on the web. Google them. They can clone your needs for a gate/door opener and ship quickly at reasonable cost.

Sounds like it might be a Prastel remote does it look like the four button one in the link
    http://www.speedintercom.com.au/wireless_conrol/prastel/transmitters.htm

Basically there are two ways of programming remotes depending on the equipment on the gate.

The first way is only really on older recievers involves setting dip switches on the remote to match the dips on the reciever.

Most newer ones have a code embedded and the remote in learned into the reciever by the installer, it's simple to do if you have a spare remote and can get access to the gate controller.
