I know the multiplayer beta has been out a while, but if you haven't got it yet it might be worth a quick look see.

The multiplayer beta is on gamespot -> here, so you'll need one of their accounts, but the free one works and a steam account to activate the key on. Preloading on steam is this week I think, but play have the game down for teh 27th or some such

I must say its a game I'm looking forward to quite a bit (I love the thief series).

I'm curious about this. Is it mainly aimed at multiplayer or is it equally single and multiplayer? I've read so many previews of it but none of them really say.

It's both. There's a single player element to it (you could take a look at the demo to see that) and a multiplayer.

Think Quake II in tights, nice hires tights and some pointy ears.

Quake 2 for transvestites? hmmmm. Sir, you have sold me! I'll give it a whirl.

Its now available for preloading and purchase on steam should anyone be interested. Weights in at 60.44 dollars when tax is added which is 47.66 eros, so it not exactly cheap. Same game is on play.com for

Dark Messiah: Might and Magic is now available for prepurchase on steam.
The cost for an Irish purchase is 60.44 dollars which works out at 47.66 euros or there abouts.
Play have it for 37.49 euros while cdwow have two one for 36.99 and another for 58.88 (collectors ?), so it might be worth waitting and getting it in a shop.

Just played the SP demo last night. It's fairly impressive. Graphics are great, as you'd expect, and some of the little things make it pretty cool at times (fire an ice spell on the ground and waiting for a goblin to run at you, sidestep at the last moment and watch him slip on the ice and off the side of a cliff :D ). But even though is gives you 3 basic ways to go about things (by brute force, with magic, or by stealth) I honestly can't see it having any real replayability. But sure I'll give it a look when it comes out.

Just been playing (bought it on Steam) the first couple of chapters. These are first impressions so correct me if I'm wrong. Does it really qualify as an rpg? i.e. keep going in that direction and you'll get points as you go and so on. Also loading times seem ludicrous. Even going back to the main menu I could've made a cup of tea. Oh well maybe a reboot and defrag etc. will help. As for the game seems good fun allright.

Its a bit of a resource hog alright, as for is it a RPG I would say it is (but then again any game can be if you play that way).

Aww, I had hoped it'd be a proper RPG. Is it just a hack 'em up with a character sheet thrown in?

I'm a fair bit into it now and I'm enjoying it. Graphics are brilliant as expected, sound is a little off at times (your footsteps are way to loud!), the story is about average so far and maybe a little on the predictable side, and the game play is fun.
There's a few brilliantly done set pieces, but they dont last too long ie
the rooftop chase after the ghoul is pretty damn cool, but it's over too soon and you end up missing out on the environment around you. Granted, it's just eye candy, but it looks good![\spoiler]
I don't think it's worth the €60 from steam. I got it in Smiths for €35.

I bought it on Friday for €39.99 in Smyths (€55.99 in GAME).

Its really good. The controls are very easy to use and in no time your hacking and slashing though everything.

The only downside I could see was the voice acting and as someone mentioned the footsteps.
The voices used in the game are sh!te! Good voice acting (such as KOTOR) is cool and I expected more. Not important for some, very important for others.

Those footsteps really are loud...I keep thinking that I am unable to sneak attack anyone because of the noise.

Am enjoying it but until I turned off HDR the thing kept crashing continually. Last game I played for a long time with no crash and thought to myself I'd be able to close the game manually for the first time as I watched chapter 4 loading and suddenly realised chapter 4 had stopped loading. Oh well. Good game but as ever pity the developers wouldn't tidy up a bit before releasing it.

really enjoying this at the moment, and you're right the footsteps are loud

Played a couple of levels last night, as well as the demo.

Gripes: Hideous loading times, boring voice-acting, plot is hardly groundbreaking.

Non-Gripes: Sweet Monkey Jesus the combat is fun. It feels really up close and visceral and frantic, and the amount of destroyable/usable scenery opens up some very funky options. Locking blades with someone only to push them back a step, and follow through with a kick that sends him not only flying off the stairway but also through the floorboards to land in a broken heap three stories below, is immensely satisfying. It pulls no punches with blood, certainly. All in all, it's really very pretty.

There are some nice set pieces as has been mentioned. I'll be picking this up sometime soon. If only the loading times weren't so horrible...
