    Hey folks,

    I'm wondering if it's possible to save streaming videos from a website.

    Do I need a specific program to do it? Can I get it for free?

    Ideally I'd just like to save the video as mpeg or avi or somethin like that.

    Thanks for any help!

    Firefox has a program to download certain streaming medias called VideoDownloader.

    Not sure about smil format though. Is that real player? If so your probably out of luck.

    .smil would be Real Media format, I haven't come across a program to download that sort of format. Anything else can be downloaded with VideoDownloader or UnPlug for Firefox.

    .smil is often just a redirect if you open the file in notepad you will sometimes see the true location of the video stream.

    Any download manager program should be able to grab the .smil file

    hmmm... The .smil file is located here.

    I've saved it and opened it in notepad, and this is the relevent code:
                 src="rtsp://streaming2.rte.ie/2006/0929/thelatelateshow-130054-228.rm"
    	     clip-begin="00:37:31.4"
    	     clip-end="00:57:08"
                 region="video"
                 regAlign="center"
                 regPoint="center"/>

    	</seq>
    	<img src="http://search.rte.ie/webbug/image.php?document=http://www.rte.ie/smilfiles/2006/0929/thelatelateshow-130054-228.rm" region="video"/>

    None of the links in the code work though, so I'm not sure what to do. Any ideas?

    VideoDownloader doesn't work for it cos it opens externally rather than in the browser.

    Thanks for the help!

    Copy and paste as a URL into Flashget click Edit->paste URL (tested myself & working)

    I'd like use some screen recorder to help me copy streaming videos, for it can be applicable to any websites, so you can use it to capture streaming video from any websites. It also can capture whatever is displayed on your computer screen with high quality and help you save the recordings as standard video format file, so you can upload it to video sharing websites or enjoy it at will.
