A mate broke his hand outside of work and for 2 weeks was in work with a cast, not doing his job but auditing and checking things as it was impossible for him to do his job with the cast.

After 2 weeks a manager who hates him told his supervisor if he wasnt doing anything productive to send him home unpaid as he has used his 3 days sick leave , and to come back in when he was able to work.

Now for 2 weeks they provided alternative work but now the manager who hates him wants him to go home unpaid and return when the cast is off, but he knows the injury is more than broken bones, it involves ligaments and will be a while before it heals properly.

Could anyone direct me to the laws regarding this as at the moment I'm browsing oasis.gov but wanted some other input for my mate.

If he is unable to do his job they are entitled to send him home. He then is entitled to disability benefit.

his employer is doing him a massive favor by providing alternative work, they are not obliged to, but I would wonder the merits of the "send him home" angle, it should be more of a case of "we have no work for you"

He can take sick leave and claim on the welfare but if its gonna look like a long term thing he might as the other response was to look at disability but in my book that is where you are given welfare where you cannot do any work due to what ever condition you have but you must be unemployable where technically your mate is.
