try these ....slightly cheaper. No exp with them however but they are recommended on some uk camera forums.

    good luck.

For what its worth the pic quality from mini DV is better than Hard disk and less probs if you suffer equip failure. just my thoughts. Good luck either way

I could find no cheaper than pixmania, except the link posted above. I have no experience with them either. Give us some feedback anyway OP, wherever you end up purchasing. Dankoo. :)

Thanks for the help there. I think I'll stick with Pixmania (although I may hold out in hope of a deal or better vouchers).

    This might interest you....

Currys in Galway retail park have a JVC GR- D366 Mini Dv camcorder on sale for €299. My friend bought one on saturday and i had a look over it. Is well spec`d for the money.

    32 X optical zoom
    800 x digital zoom
    32 mb SD card included
    Firewire and usb ports
can take still photos onto Sd card
    white LED light on board
    Remote Control included
    3 hour batt.

If youre on a tight budget this is a serious contender.

Thanks eirlink but I have me heart set on a hard drive model (it satisfies my inner and outer geek).

Anyone know where I can lay my hands on some Pixmania discount vouchers? Tried google and just getting UK ones?

I bought a (digital) Panasonic one in currys 2 weeks ago for €300 incl leather carry bad and 4 tapes.

It was €540 and was on special.I think they are still advertisied on the newspapers?

All current harddisk camcorders compress the recorded footage to some degree while using the harddisk. My brother-in-law bought the Sony and it's a really nice camcorder, has everything you'd expect and the quality is really good, bought in PowerCity for just over a grand. But the 'geek' in me reminds me that it's a lossy format to start with.

    Cheers

If you know anyone going to Singapore;)

I got my brother a JVC enviro 70 for 500 euros with a bag, a tripod and the bigger battery over there.

We find it to be very good, even though some of the reviews werent great (although most hdd recorders seem to get slated).
