Hi, heading to dusseldorf at the weekend...Has anyone been there before? What's the night life like and what would you recommend is the best place to go?

    What's the shopping like?

I was there for a weekend last year, September I think.
It's a nice city, pretty relaxed.

Head into the old town, few nice restaurents and bars.

It's a safe enough place for walking around and there's a good tram system & plenty of taxi's. No more expensive than here anyway.

Took it easy for the weekend, rambled around to bars, drank the local stuff which is great. Mostly cafe type bars with outdoor seating.

Didn't do much shopping, just drinkin and eatin!

Well I was just there with my dad for a weekend, so didn't really go hunting for any parties. Could be a few good clubs, lots of young people out and about anyway.

As for the sights, you'll see plenty in the Old Town, old churches & breweries and the likes.
Along the banks of the Rhine has lovely promenades. Pretty impressive bridge too.

It's a good size city for spending a day walking about.

I was only there for a couple of hours but there's a small doener kebab shop really near the train station which makes the best kebabs ever for about €1.50... can't remember the name though.

Those doner kebab shops are everywhere! :) Head for the 'Altstadt' (oldtown) area in Dusseldorf as has been mentioned for some tasty grub. I can't really remember doing a whole lot but going to Benrath Palace. It is very easy to get around.

Yeah but the kebabs in this place were actually great. Best kebab I've ever had, and I've had plenty around Dusseldorf. My German friend who was a Dusseldorf local drove us all especially to this place after football so we could all fill up.
