Reversing drive compression

I've a 397Gb data partition with 217Gb free space. The drive is compressed. I want undo this compression. Apparantly, it is slowing down the backup. Can I undo this compression by going to Properties > Compress drive to save disk space > Uncheck > Apply? Would there be any consequences to doing this?

Yes you can, and no (expected) consequences barring whats written on the tin.

Will this uncompress existing files and/or write new files uncompressed?

It will decompress all existing files.

14 freaking days to go and rising!!

The drive will be accessed by network users in the morning. Can I leave it running or what would the story be if I stopped it now with some files done and most not done?

    Thanks.

Edit: 42 days and rising! Could this be accurate?

Edit: Peaked at 182 days. Is back now at 179 days. Would it be safe enough to leave it undoing the compression while the drive is being accessed and written to??
