Just wondering which of the two is a better to work for? I want partime work and I'd like to be able to go to fottie on Sundays (i'd work a split shift) any of ye know what they would be like for catering for such a request?

if by split shift you mean come in for a few hours, leave for the footie and come back for the rest of your shift, i was told in dunnes training that they don't do that. i worked for dunnes for three years. it prepares for the general retardeness and petty mindedness of managers in all walks of life.

i had great craic working there though

anyone i know that's worked in tescos reallys enjoys it. they are pretty good to work for and once your there a while can be accomodating in terms of hours . altho not sure about split shifts. i worked in quinnsworth years ago. terrible place at the time but anyone i know in tescos seems to really get on well there.

I worked in Dunnes for a year, didnt like it at all. I was in the fruit and veg section and the hours were set at 9/10 to 2/3 on a sunday. We used never work any later than 3, every other section had to though (unless you got the early shift in the bakery) So maybe if you could get into a section like that you could work and still get out in time for your games ?

Most of our games are on at half 11, I have a mate who works at Tescos and he is allowed get time off for games, but he has been there for 4 years, I wonder if I told them i'd be willing to work any of the 24 hour shifts, and if i could get the 3 hours off for games, would it make any difference.

You'll never know if you don't try. It would probably be down to the type of manager hiring and how much you impress them compared to the other applicants. Apply to both places and prepare what you are going to say in advance. But it wouldn't hurt to look for other jobs with companies who don't open on Sundays.
