Just wondering if anyone has been to Iceland as I'm hoping to travel there next year, and if you had any info on cheap flights and accomodation as the accomodation is crippling my holiday as a 2* hotel is looking for €320 for 3 nights.

flights so far only go from London at about €300 pp inc return taxes and charges, with a flight from here not inc.

Many thanks to those who can offer advice

I have not been to Iceland but a friend has been there twice. It is a very
    expensive destination.
You do not mention what month you intend to travel but I checked
www.icelandexpress.com and flying out on April 3rd and returning on April 7th
the fare comes to €198 ex London Stansted.
Did a quick search of hotels and some showing €396 for 4 nights dougle room.
    Hope this helps.

I've been a few times, usually the cheapest option is to fly to Glasgow and then get an Icelandair flight to Keflavik. Icelandair run promotions called Lucky Fares which are usually cheaper than Iceland Express's fares. When you get there it's about e26 return from Keflavik to Reyjavik on the bus which isn't bad value when you see the price of taxis and the cost of petrol. Also duty free is available on arrival so stock up there on beer and stuff.
The price of taxi fares was recently abolished in order to try and stimulate competition so make sure you know in advance roughly what you're paying if you get one. There's a youth hostel which is still expensive enough and there's loads of guesthouses. Both will probably be cheaper than hotels. Radisson are really the main player in the hotel market and there are some boutique hotels that can cost an arm and a leg.
Prices have gone up even more recently except for beer. Pasta in a restaurant now costs around e32, far better to eat in pubs in cafes. Pints cost around e5.50 but if you go certain places it can cost significantly more. And by that I mean almost double. At the weekend in Reykjavik most people stay home til around midnight or 1am and then go out. The pubs close at 7am but most have a rule that you aren't allowed in after 5am. If you tell me the kind of music, crowd etc you like I can give some recommendations.
I've travelled most of Iceland so post any questions you have and I'll respond as best I can. Also if you're only going for a few days there are usually three day weekend options available on charters flying from Dublin with accommodation included.
