PC to TV

    Hi

I currently have a fairly decent PC in an upstairs room with a lot of music and movies on it. I want to transmit it wirelessly to my TV downstairs. I'm looking for some tips and recommendations for transmitting the signal and controlling my PC from downstairs.

I don't have media centre but I can get my hands on a copy fairly easily. I also have a wireless network in my house so that may come in handy. Anyway any tips for the latest hardware would be great!

Well you have a few options that all vary in cost

    1) Acquire a media streamer, these are standalone devices often with wireless capability that play certain content not as flexible as a full HTPC but can do the job for some.

    2) If Windows MCE is your media center program of choice an Xbox 360 console can act as an extender (with wireless support) to the interface though with certain caveats about media support but these can be worked around.

    3) I once heard someone mention a wireless VGA sender, never really seen such a device myself but it's resolution was limited to 640x480.

    4) Extenders, it is possible to get cable extenders that could allow you to route the output of the PC to the TV (not wireless).

    5) Put together a low cost HTPC and wireless link both PC's.

If you PC has s-video out, you could get and s-video to SCART convertor, plug this into a standard wireless sender and have the receiver plugged into the TV downstairs.

If your PC has an IR remote, you will be able to send the remote control signals back to the PC via the wireless sender. Very low-tech and inflexible, TBH, but one of the cheaper options.

You can get the wireless video sender in the likes of Argos.
