FTA Channels

I have moved to a house in Clondalkin and the previous owners have left behind a Sky satellite dish. I bought an FTA Triax satellite receiver but have not been able to get any channels with it. Should this combination work?

Assuming the dish is still aligned properly, and LNB working as it should, then yes, the receiver should work.

When tuning the receiver, make sure you've it set to Astra 2 and Eurobird before you scan.

I'm moving this thread to Satellite.

Is it a small oval mesh dish or a roundish dish? It might not be pointing at the satellite for Sky.

Make sure to use F connectors and that the coax does go to the small box with "horn" (LNB or LNBF) on the end of arm at dish.

It looks slightly oval, perforated with holes.

Sounds like the Sky mini-dish OK.

Please confirm if I should be able to pick up channels with this dish.
    Also, what are "F-connectors"?

F connectors are the thingies that join the cable to the receiver and the dish

    See

    http://homepage.eircom.net/~watty/satellite/sathowto-p8.htm

If you don't know what f connectors are then chances are you need to tool up a bit on what you 're doing.

Suggest you read some posts with "dish installation" or similar titles posted here over the last month or so. That will increase your knowledge of what you're doing and make it easier to get sorted.

Thanks for all the help. I am familiar with those connectors, I just didn't know they were called "f-connectors".
The receiver is a TRIAX FTA system, model no. DVB 1000s.
