windows xp professional upgrade: will I lose the installed software

I am about to install new XP Professional on my new laptop and I was wondering whether the software that came included with the laptop will be lost; I don't have the installation discs for the trial version of Norton Antivirus and Sonic Record Now as well as Microsoft Works.

I know that I am going to have to upgrade before I go back to college. Is there even a way where I can backup this software?

Any advice would go down very well.

What do you have on the laptop now ?

in theory XP pro will upgrad 2K home and XP home, but I had it go pear shapped before so BACKUP first

ditch norton antivirus, if it doesn't have a current virus list it's just lulling you into a false sense of security instead of protecting you against current threats !

what brand of laptop is it most have a utility to make disks , but it varies from brand to brand
