I'd run with that. Cats are so clichéd.

Mobile phones are good. Or if you can get a TV in there I'd try that. Potted plants are interesting. Packet of staples perhaps?

A 500ml bottle of coke, and leave a lotta' lil' mentos around the bottle. When the Bottle melts the coke and plastic will mix with mentos creating a Mento-tacular explosion!

After how many of these would you still have a working microwave I wonder?

Put in an Incredible Hulk action figure (it's ironic :D )

    A full can of petrol
    A small automobile (Cinquecento?)
    Your worst enemy
    The Bible
    A flower
    A bag of flour
    Popcorn seeds
    Firecrackers
    Me Ma
    A Backstreet Boys CD
    etc etc

Titling a thread "first ever microwave" implies that the OP wants a second.

    I like it.

That's silly Dave. It's a microwave, not a barn. He's not going to be able to get all those items into the microwave at once unless he piles them all into the cinquecento first. And if his worst enemy is King Kong he's not going to be able to fit Ruu in as well.

    James Bond.
Then leave the room and leave the microwave guarded by one sole minion.
No Mr Bond... I expect you to... fry!

Even better that the OP will be picking out lumps of the microwave out of his face for the next few weeks. :)

ever put a marsh mallow in the microwave? It grows to 10 times its size. And when it stops, the marsh mallow collapses.

I'll bet you'd get the same with Easter Peeps.

Coffee cups with foil on them are great to watch. It's like a lightening storm and the cup comes out looking very artistic!

(Okay, so I'm fairly tame compared to the other posts, but my microwave still works after these simple torture tests!)

i have a plan. my microwave won't turn on unless the latches that are on the door are pushed into the frame.

but if i break them off the door and stick them into the frame, it'll work with the door open and i'll have myself a microwave gun.

and then they'll all pay. mmooooooohhhhaaaaaawwwwwwaaawawawawwahhhwahhwahwhahhwhaa belch

    A George Foreman Grill

    A small camp fire

    Richie Kavanagh

A mobile phone (Call it and listen to the microwaves)

A really long email (When finished take it out & forward it to yourself)

LIDL or ALDI brand magnum of Champange

A new 60GB Apple iPod Video

A picture of row of guys all called Mike, who are all waving to the camera.

Research is nearing completion on a system that will allow the melting and casting of bronze, silver, gold, and even cast iron, using an unmodified domestic microwave oven as the energy source.
A potential foundry in every kitchen !!
oops - been posted above :D

in which case lots of fluorescent bulbs use at VERY low power

I was busy melting and casting, to accurate shape, small quantities (up to a quarter of a kilo) of bronze, silver, white metal or iron.

And stuffing my little face with microwaved food :p
