    Hi All,

Does anyone have information on tour operators or groups who arrange holidays/trips etc for older people of retirement or close to retirement age?

If so can you post information here? I am llooking for this info for a single person aged about 65 who really wants to travel in her retirement and doesn't have anyone of her own age to go with. A group would be great.

    Thanks ...

p.s No dating agency type groups please!

There are loads of interesting options - Im not sure if im just planning my own retirement a bit early or just looking it up for my mam too
A lot of companies seem to have begun catering for this
you could start by looking at some companies that traditionally cater for backpackers such as
    Intrepid eg comfort style http://www.intrepidtravel.com/ourtrips/styles/
    Imaginative traveller traveller style http://www.imaginative-traveller.com

What you get from these is the sort of trips covered by backpackers but staying at some great hotels and private transport etc usually without a single supplement as they tend to pair you up with someone in your group to share a room -This is the best way of doing it as you get to know people much quicker if sharing
Besides this if she was interested in good travel companies with a slightly older profile I have heard great praise of the travel department www.thetraveldepartment.ie
Also I have heard of http://www.thepattclub.ie/ which seems to fit the bill but its quite expensive
are there any particular interests she has eg gardening etc ?

My parents used the Travel Department recently for a trip to Rome. They had a fantastic time getting to see all the main sights in Rome and a lot of the surrounding area. There was a real mixture of people on the tour, but mainly people in late 50's or older (even two women in their 80's apparently). Some of the day trips were hard work, often with early starts, but the atmosphere was great and they said they'd definitely use this company again.
