I have a Garmin StreetPilot i3 which I bought in May this year. I was told there would be an update released for it this month. Is this true and where do I get it and is it free?

What sort of update are you looking for, a software update for the unit itself or a mapping update ?
You can check out http://www.garmin.com/support/ and the first on the list is Software updates. From there you can download a little program which will then check your unit is up todate and if not, will update it.
Don't think the new mapping software is out yet though.

does anyone know when the maps will be updated for the i3? I have found a few issues with it - namely - new roads missing and it telling me to take a right turn when it isn't permitted. Also a lack of addresses on it. Other then that i really really love this thing - couldn't be without it!!!

I have one too and really want to get updated maps. Navteq do the maps for these and navteq now have 100% mapping in ireland, but I also read that Garmin only release updates in the new year and apparently you have to pay for them.
One other question, if i buy a new i3 will can I swap the memory card to use the updated map or is there more to it.

I think that (if you are that way inclined), you can download the maps from bittorrent. But only bold people do that and there is no way i would do it.

Not sure why Garmin would wait till the start of the year before they release the maps - surely if they can make a few extra Euro's from sales they would do it asap? Or are they thinking that a load of people will get sat-nav's as Christmas pessies and then will be thinking of buying updated maps? hmmm... i can only ponder.h

FYI City Navigator Europe V9 has now been made available on their website for $75 which now has full Irish coverage, this was mentioned and is now probably lost in the big Garmin vs..... thread.

However, they're having issues with their database at the moment so if you do try get the update disk by entering your customer num/coupon code you'll probably get a message telling you there's no updates available for your unit. They're working on it at the moment and hope to have it resolved by Friday.

I got a Garmin Nuvi 310 as a present a few days ago - and I am delighted with it!

It has the preloaded v8 maps (UK&Ireland) installed currently, however I managed to successfully order the (free) v9 update DVD via their website this afternoon. I did have problems this morning with it saying I was not entitled to an update but this seems to be resolved now.

I called the UK support line and they have no discs so expect it next yr early January hopefully.

Yeah I called them also to find out when I could expect to receive it and they told me the same thing.

Have you ordered your map update Colly?

Brilliant. I've a few Nuvi 360's on v8, all entitled to free upgrades. Woohoo! Now to root out the yellow registration cards that came with the units.

ya, I ordered it yesterday too - fairly simple ... I was looking at the navigator v9 mapping on their website and I reckon it is Navteq q2 , though can't be certain

looking forward to getting the dvd in January now

Ordered my update via the web today, very straight forward assuming the dvd will actually arrive sometime. Said only free if you registered your unit after Sept 1st, I got mine in July. Wasn't asked for any money, presumable we'll be asked when we go online to get our unlock code after the dvd arrives.

Did you register it in July though, or did you register it recently? If you registered it lately and when registering you put in the purchase date after Sept 1st you will most likely get it free but as you say you will only find out when the disk arrives. When I went back in after order I can click on the unlock disk link in my account and it asks if I have the disk yet and if not click her to order I didnt click yes I have it as the link may only work once so am going to wait I reckon once you say yes it will either charge ya or give you your free unlock code.

Unfortunately registered in July before I had educated myself on these mapping issues. Still if its 75 dollars for all of Europe maps its not bad value.

has anyone who registered their garmin product recently received their update disk? I registered in Mid-December and still no sign of it...

I ordered Mid December also, and receive both my DVD, and my Sister's last week.

Yes I got mine about 2 weeks ago. I wonder could this be your problem, registering the unit and getting the disc are 2 different processes. After registering you have to go to the mapping update page to order the DVD. When you get it you are not charged, as long as you have your unlock code that came with the unit.

need a bit of advice here.

I have the Nuvi 310 - and i got my update DVD last night.

I plugged the Nuvi intot he computer and ran a load of updates (firmware stuff mostly, i think) and then followed all the instructions to unlock the map pack. I didn't have a 25 digit code, so i selected the option to get one. Entered my information, logged into my garmin account via the unlock wizard, and was offered the European CityNavigator v9 maps for free. I selected them, and it told me the maps were unlocked. I then opened the maps on the computer (as told to do in the manual) selected Ireland, and sent them to my Nuvi. Files sent fine, apparently. However, when i unplugged the Nuvi from the computer, it went to load the maps and an error message came up saying "can't unlock maps". What am i supposed to do? I thought i had unlocked the maps, and i certainly have an unlock code now. Any ideas?
