Ok, here it is :D Finally one that wont brake the bank...
Last Years: €1760 after upgrading to Ducati
    Male, 25, Kildare:cool:
    4 Years NCB
    Aon Grade 2
Ducati Monster 620re (restricted version)
    TP: €406
    Fully comp: €897

I'll be going with the TP. I dont want to pay the feckers more than €600 for insrance again. So hopefully next year I can get a RoSPA ceart too.

I got quoted (online) for two grand on a (fictional) 10 year old CG125 fully comp. Granted I'm still on a provisional licence and am 22, but I said I wouldn't be using it in dublin and wouldn't be covering much ground in the average year. Looks like I'm gonna be using public transport and pushing pedals for another few years  .

That quote is nice and cheap, but I am guessing that is the Kildare address rather than anything. Seems in line with my quote on the SV (Factory Restricted) otherwise.

Now, If you have a moment, seeing as you have done this, can you or anyone else for that matter tell me if adding an aftermarket exhaust to a factory restricted bike is a good or bad idea (mechanically) for the engine. If it makes a difference, the restriction is in the ECU rather than washers in the manifolds.

Obviously, there would not be any power gains but that is not quite the point ;)

Presumably as long as the carbs/injection are balanced to the new exhaust it should be fine... Don't quote me on that though!

It's a great idea from an aesthetics perspective, as the sound of the v-twin unleashed is fantastic.. As for re-mapping etc. the guys on www.sv650.org would be best placed to answer this question.

You might want to make sure about the power-gain too.. It's probably not a huge issue but the new zorst could put you marginally over the 33bhp limit..

Be prepared to start wearing ear-plugs though... Everything comes at a cost!

Has anyone gone back to their insurer and declared a change of exhaust?

You dont have to tell them when you change the exaust system. You only need to tell them when you make a change to the engine cc. You wolud also need to note this with the Ownership booklet.

As for it making changes to the proformace of the bike. Changing the exaust system can cause the bike to run Lean. So it might need to be rejetted/tuned. Or if you have a Fuel injected bike, you could get a power commander and a costom map and or new ECU. That said. If you are doing that, I can suggest getting a K&N air filter too. (there only about €60) But will give a better proformance and will last longer.

Al, The Duc is group 6 restricted, group 9 if I derestrict it . (Aon Groups)

    Ah ya big messer

    Why , oh why didn't i get a "restrictor" fitted !!!

Of course you living in "Kildare" and not a really dodgy west Dublin suburb would help your insurance alot ;)

And on behalf of everyone here let me just get this in ......

    JAMMY BAXTARD !!!!

Don't forget that living in Kildare, but working in Dublin, actually negates any benefit the Kildare address gives. You don't regularly use the bike in Dublin do you, Sutty? Do you? DO YOU?!?!?!? :D

HAHAHA I just got my renewal notice in the post there the other day. I even had to ring Aon to confirm this... My new Quote is €406.... Fully Comp
I thought it was missprinted at first. But nope. Thats what it is. If you've not done it yet. I highly suggest you do the Aon tests. Its a ride out in town and "country" conditions. Well worth it as you can see. It goes on for a few hours. So you cover alot of ground. grades go as follows:

Grade 1= RoSPa Silver or Gold certified (speaks for it's self really)
Grade 2= 38 or more out of 44marks (Highly skilled/safe rider, in all conditions)
Grade 3= 24 or more points (safe rider, under normal conditions)
Grade 4= 14 or more points ("safe enough" rider under normal conditions)
Anything under 14 points = What the hell are you doing on a bike!

Somethings not right there. How the hell did it drop so much in one year ??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,109 ✭✭✭sutty

MUAHAHA... mine is a Evil Laugh

I really have no idea how it dropped over a grand. But then again... I dont really care. I'm just glad it did :D and the last years quote was TP.... this one of 406 was meant to be TP when I rang up a month or two ago. But for some reason, come the renewal being posted out to me. It is Fully comp.

Has it anything to do with the "address" that you supplied to them? IIRC you told them you were "never" in dublin.

Also, did you do the RoSPA or the AON test? How did you find it in either case. I did the RoSPA and it is well worth it. Financially at the very least. That is the carrot so to speak. It "paid" for itself for me anyway in one renewal savings, as you nicely point out in your post.

I done and passed my Aon Grade 2 in July. I also got my full licence 2 days after that. I've always had an Out of dublin address. Whats strange is, with no more tests passed and just a month and a half difference. My fully comp quote was €897... but a month later, its gone down to €406. you really got to wonder where they pull them quotes out of.
