Im looking to buy something similar to the following to boost a wireless signal http://www.radiolabs.com/products/antennas/2.4gig/wireless-laptop-antenna.php

I just dont understand the choice of connectors MC, MMCX, RPMMCX, RPSMA. I have a dell inspiron 6000 does anyone know what connector I would need or is their a similar product someone could recommend?

the centrino chipset in that dell has no external aerial connector. In my experience though, laptops are usually very good at picking up wireless signals. You may want to add an aerial to the wireless router instead.

The chance to get a gimmick item is good if you do not specify the nature of your problem
for example is the problem of range your own house or work or is it a genneral wandering around problem with locations like Eircom hot spots etc

Ranges as far as twenty miles have been done but usaualy 2 to 5 miles are achievable with directional antena usualy by putting the antenna inside a empty tin can such as Hienz beans cans and pointing antenna at target source
and lots of info on this type of modification on the net with searches

Improving ranges at hot spot locations generaly is less succesful at places like airports or cafes
Walls and iron girders and building structures are tending to block signals or bonce them distorting them
Rain will kill the signal dead as 2.5 ghz is micro wave signal to heat up water and rain soaks up the signal
antena wont generaly solve rain problems
then also at city locations where there are lots of WiFi the signals collide and cancell each other or block each other so this can appear to be a range issue but improving range usualy means picking up further away unwanted signals and making things worse

If you can specify what problem you have then the correct solution might not be a antenna
