    Hi

I need to sell my car but I don't want to advertise and sell it myself. Are there dealers that will buy cars off you.

    Thanks

I know paul mcgovern in bray will take most cars if he has the space, just dont expect anywhere near market value.

Also try putting in an auction like merlin in ashbourne.

Most dealers will buy your car off you - but for a price - small.
Unless you absolutely need the money yesterday, dont sell to a dealer.

I put my car in the Buy & Sell and a dealer was the first phone call. He bought it.

I probably didn't get anything like the market value, but I was happy, because he knew the correct form to fill out and was insured to drive it away immediately, no complications - and I knew it wasn't going to some little joyrider to kill himself in.

What kind of car is it? Age, mileage, etc. If you're worried about selling privately because you've never done it before then I'm sure we could talk you through it - it's really not as bad as it sounds!:)

As others said most if not all dealers will buy your car off of you unless it is a very undesirable model that they know they cannot shift. The catch is that they will give you considerably less than the market or trade in value of the car. They will probably give you the impression they are doing you a big favour by taking it off your hands.

Another way is for them to sell it on their forecourt for you. They again will charge you a commission on the sale price for this privilage.

I would only do the above as a last resort to be honest. If you are prepared to wait for the price you want, patients to put up with time wasters and in no hurry for the cash then I would recommend trying to sell it yourself.

What Anan1 said. How quickly it sells privately depends more than anything else on what car it is. I just sold a car privately through an ad in the Buy and Sell. It sold within days. I did get market value for it

Selling privately is very easy for the seller. You take payment, hand over the keys and make sure the buyer fills in his details on the licensing certificate. Sign the certificate yourself and send it to Shannon. Simple as that. You don't need to worry about insurance

Thanks for all the replies, my car is a 2001 Saab 95 with 81,000 miles on the clock. I sold a previous car privately and found it took quiet a while and the car was sitting outside my house uninsured which was a little disconcerting.

I don't mind not getting full market value as I just want to move on from this car, I like the idea of paying commision and just letting the garage sell it. I might try and do that.

Not the easiest to sell. You won't get anything near what dealers are looking for if you sell privately. If a dealer offers you €10k, I'd jump at it

There's that as well. You can get it insured separately from your main car insurance but it will cost in the region of €60 / week. What I did was park in work (gated business park with 24/7 security). Not insured, but it made me feel a lot better :)

Slightly different cirucmstances. I'm planning to sell my car privately and clear the finance. I owe less than the value, so how would that transaction work?

You could take a short term 'bridging' loan to clear the finance if it's secured on the car, sell the car, repay the bridging loan from the sale. Just make sure you actually pay the loan! ;)

If the loan isn't secured against the car in a hire/lease purchase, for example you took a personal loan to buy it with no security, you're free to sell the car.

    Cheers,

    Gil

I'll sell it for you for 30% of the money you get for it.

There are plenty of car traders out there that will buy a car at the right price.
If you are in a hurry and don't want spend time advertising it, etc. (As it's not a corolla or the like it could take a while) then you could do worse than sell it to a car trader - remember it might be small money but in reality it probably isn't much less than what you would *really* get for it as a trade in.
Another advantage of selling this way is, as I understand it, if you sell a car privately and the timing belt/engine/transmission/something major goes within 3 months the new owner can come after you but if you sell into the trade, that's it, you can forget about it as it's his problem then!

How much do you want for it? Send me a P.M. if you like.

It doesn't matter if a private person sells to the trade or to another private person!

The principle of "Caveat Emptor" applies. This means that the onus is on the buyer to check the car out. There is no come back whatsoever if something goes wrong after the sale. However if the buyer asks a question like "was the timing belt done at 60k?" and the seller lies, the sale is void. Hard to prove such sings though

Hello everyone. I would like to get advice on the same subject. Don't want to advertise my car, but calling dillers around city center made me nearly dipressed, especially extremely rude and arrogant was N4 cars. As a trade in they were offering 1300 for my car (market price 1800-2500), but the thing is their stock are worst broken cars that they selling so I wouldn't be bothered to buy anything from them, but on question how much they would offer for my car without trading in got huge amount of rudeness. Is there any garages that treat people with respect and able to make normal offer?🀔
