Downey Jr agrees deal for Iron Man

Robert Downey Jr is to play the lead role in the big screen adaptation of the Marvel Comic 'Iron Man'.

The Hollywood Reporter says that the Jon Favreau-directed film tells the story of Tony Stark (Downey), a billionaire industrialist and inventor who creates a suit of armour and becomes a crusader for good.

It is reported that Downey Jr trained hard and even grew a goatee beard like Stark to get the role.

Commenting on his casting, Marvel Entertainment's President of Production, Kevin Feige, said: "We looked at everybody, and we found the best person for the role. It's as confident a casting move as we've ever done. The proof will be in the pudding, but he is Tony Stark."

i seem to recall from my youth that stark was a self made millionaire so he wouldn't be too young, i'd be happy just as long as he doesn't break into "I Want Love" in the midle of it.

ps OP the term isn't casted it's just cast:p

Robert Downey Jr is a great actor - definately wouldn't have any problems with him being cast anyway. Looks the part in my opinion... but with a bit of effort any amount of other actors could too I suppose...

Overall, I'd say its fairly good news.

Sweet. I'm not an Iron Man fanboy or anything, but I do like Downey Jr. He does have a resemblence to Stark as well.

i have to admit i didnt see this coming but you know what, it works! downey jr's a good actor which'll lend some weight to the role. i used to collect ironman and the guy does have a tony stark air to him. throw in the womanising and addiction and its practically his life.

i was a bit worried about this movie but maybe it wont suck afterall. hell at least its not cruize:D

why-and what has he been in apart from Kiss Kiss Bang Bang[fantasic] and ALly Mc Beel[crap]?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,988 ✭✭✭constitutionus

think the last thing he was in was "a scanner darkly" though you'd be forgiven for not knowing. the rotoscoping effect is really surreal

Terrence Howard has joined up as Jim "War Machine" Rhodes.

There is also a poster that offers a peek at the armour.

You question his ability when you've only seen one of his movies? And even then you say he was fantastic... Good call:rolleyes:

Yes! How unreasonable of the guy to not be in favour of RDJ after seeing just one movie in which was playing a role unlike Stark.

Al Pacino is one of the greatest actors of all time so do you think he'd have made a good Batman?. Shove your  up your arse.

No, but then again i've seen more than one of his films to base my decision on:

Ya... ya... ya get it now?

Oh so you'd have to see a few Al movies before you could decide he wouldn't make a good Batman? Oh ok, sorry for disturbing you then in that case. I guess I'll let you get back to wiping the drool off your mouth now.

Well, if you're refering to Al Pacino's age and appearance and the fact that he couldn't pull off the 'superhero' as a result then i guess you're right, i wouldn't have to see any of his films.

But RDJ doesn't look like Al Pacino, in fact, as already addressed in this thread, he shows quite a resemblence to The Iron Man.

Hence, your point is quite retarded.

Where did I say anything about Al's age? You can take Al in 1973 if you like and he's still not Batman. Likewise if a guy can't see Stark in RDJ (even after just one movie) it's still a valid opinion.

Why? Because he is a white guy with black hair and (sometimes) a goatee beard? Hell if that's your paramenter then a significant proportion of the western world look like Iron man.
Hence, your point is quite retarded.
Well in that case here's to finally being on your wavelength.

You obviously implied it in your post, you want to disagree with that, fair enough.

Well, i'm a white guy with black hair, and a goatee beard. I don't look like Iron Man. So, erm, no.

Did I really? Where exactly did I imply it? Did Al only recently become a great actor or perhaps did the past tense form of 'do you think he'd have made a good Batman' not register with you?

Well FYI, no I didn't and you're just talking gibberish now.
you want to disagree with that, fair enough.
So if I want to disagree with your incorrect interpretation of *my* opinion then it's 'fair enough' with you? It's ok with you for people here to take my point of view on board as as I actually mean it be presented rather than make do with your half-assed interpretion of of it? You're far too kind!

... in your opinion. Perhaps all the RDJ lovers think you are the spitting image of Stark.
