Where can I find out the type of aerials I need for the 4 Irish channels , I have seen an out of date site in these threads , is there a site ? couldn't find it at rte.ie . Sorry if I missed an obvious site .

I think that I need 2 UHF aerials , 1 V &1 H for Mt Leinster and Suir Valley, (I live near S Valley transmitter) can I just knot the 2 wires and 2 braids together ( keeping them apart) ? What colour codes aerials do I need?

Lastly , where can I get the aerials at a respectable price ? Last time I did this I paid €26- for the box that combines VHF and UHF cables in Waterford, (I got boxes that combine 4 satellite LNB's for €14- on the internet) imo rip off for ancient technology ,,,, I am never going to darken the door of that Waterford shop again!.... I hope:o

    Appreciate any help.

If you ring RTE they will tell you and send out a leaflet. It is mad this info is not on their site. But they will send out the info if you say you install aerials.

You need a diplexer, 'knot'ing them together will lead to poor results due to impedance mismatch.

Mt Leinster in Group A - (Red) (Low UHF channels), and Horizontal, which you need for TV3 on Ch 26
Suir Valley is Group C/D (Green) (High UHF Channels) and Vertical

Take a look at the Televes Diplexers which are commonly available
In your case either a 4045, 4047 or a 4048 would be fine. These combine the low channels with the high channels. A wideband combiner like the 4004 would lead to unnecessary loss.

RTE gives no info on TV3

Even though (almost?) all the TV3 transmitters/masts rented from RTENL.
I've never tried TV3 for info.

They list the transmitters carrying TV3 here:
    http://www.tv3.ie/corporate.php?id=4

It also mentions being on cable and MMDS, no mention of it being on SKY though!

Well unlike RTE it is not available on Sky in N.I. Also Sky is a foriegn TV service. Why should they list it :) Especially when people might tune to UTV!

I haven't had time to shop yet , but saw online plenty of wideband aerials ( and didn't find any A or C/D's) , as I understand it they pick up all UHF channels . Is the advantage of the A#s and C/D types , lighter , smaller cheaper ??
What should I expect to pay for an aerial ? Any online tips ?

The Wideband bow tie have lower gain, worse immunity to ghosting and are cheap.

Combining VHF and UHF aerial is cheap and easy to find the diplexer. Combining UHF aerials is more expensive and needs harder to find Channel Filters or Group Filters.

    Antenna ,
A friend in Woodstown Co Waterford ( halfway between city and Dunmore East) and my sister in Gorey Co. Wex both asked me to get them aerials at the same time , can you oblige with the aerial details ?

    Watty ,
I was quoted €20- per aerial and €16.50 for a diplexer , diplexer seems to be no prob. locally . Hardly worth the effort of shopping around , however I would be well on the way to a Sat. system for the same money.

    Thanks again
