Due to illogical demand for DS games in Japan they've run low on plastic and are resorting to shipping games with GBA style cardboard boxes.

Anyone who buys one of these will get an apology in the box from Nintendo and is invited to replace it for a plastic box when they get things sorted out.

Of course they are only doing this to Europeans because we don't matter.

Did you even read the link? It explicitly says that the material used in Europe is different to the US and Japan and that is why they aren't affected.

Did anyone else think initially that there was a shortage on plastic for more Wii consoles?

:D yes... and then when I started to read the thread I thought it was a shortage of plastic for DS consoles... phew!

What they should do is recall all the pastic dummy boxes sent out to the likes of Game that were sent out in the build up to the DS launch (and are still used to show games coming out soon)... that should help things temporarily !

Wouldn't all be a bit more "green" if the boxes were cardboard? It always struck me as a bit wasteful to have such a huge box relative to the tiny cartridge. Apart from the manual why else do they need them that size.

Ah well, I'll just go back to hugging trees...

Having imported a few games, I have wondered why the different plastics between US/Jap games (Black Plastic) and Euro (Clear plastic).

I think i prefer the US/Jap kind tbh.

It is a huge waste a plastic alright. :( The boxes should be halfed in size tbh. I like them being plastic like dvd cases though, if they were cardboard, they would fall apart. And were paying wiii charges (see what i did there? SWOOOOSH!!) over here anyway, so thats my green work done :D

I doubt anyone wants to go back to the days where games came in cardboard boxes...

I really dislike the European standard for DS cases though, they're so chunky for such small contents.

Given that you can't scratch a DS cart and they're pretty durable (I once put Mario Kart DS in the wash... the sticker didn't even fall off) I don't use the boxes; I have them all in a pouch with my DS.

I hate the cardboard boxes but wouldn't be too bothered if they made the switch, once the important stuff was still there.
I do think they plastic boxes are stupidly big, although I appreciate the smaller they are the less space they're given in shops etc.

I want them to bring back big cardboard boxes like they used to have for PC games. It was great getting a surprise of a T-shirt in the box. Damn you DVD cases!

Oh yea, PC games were much cooler in the large cardboard boxes. Thing was, they were durable as fúck compared to Nintendo's kind.

I like to build little houses out of my DS carts, like houses of cards only smaller (I use blue tac)
