What the story with accept_waup.pl, I agreed to it, then I recieved an email
Your mail to 'aupaccept' with the subject

WAUP acceptance - (my suername here)

Is being held until the list moderator can review it for approval.

The reason it is being held:

    Post by non-member to a members-only list

Either the message will get posted to the list, or you will receive
notification of the moderator's decision. If you would like to cancel
this posting, please visit the following URL:

    Is this standard?

by the looks of that it looks like netsoc misconfigured the list

basically when you agree to the AUP tosetup your website they get sent an email to inform them. But the list seems to be configured so that only certain people can email that list.

    imo safely ignore it.

send a mail to us at support [at] netsoc [dot] tcd.ie

we get things sorted out quickly if we actually get told about them

I've sent an email. But I don't understand what you mean by told? I've no idea what the standard procedure for netsoc are, and decided to ask here since I know many of the posters have netsoc accounts.

It's odd, three years and I've never used my webspace, and the minute I find a use for it, bang, problems.

you're webspace is set up, you can ignore the message that's just a mistake

but if you ever find anything wrong just send a mail, we do try our best to keep everything running properly

A sure, no problem, I just wasn't sure if there was something wrong, or if thats the way things work.

Thing is, I still get this forbidden message

    http://www.netsoc.tcd.ie/~skanger/

I've set up all the folders to 755 and all the files to 644, and there is a working index file.

seems to have a problem with PNG support

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,314 ✭✭✭Nietzschean

you did have the correct premissions on your www directory, probally

but on linux...if you had a directory structure :
    /home/liouville/www

right i assume you know to be able to cd to a directory you need it to have the +x premission? to list its content it needs to be +r

to get to your www directory every directory above it must have the +x premission. In this case your home dir didn't, this could be the default, i don't know....

unlikely to be any PNG specific problems....

I actually didn't know that they had to be +x, and there was no mention of it on the support website. Thanks, yea saved me allot of hassel.

btw, you got any computer engineering notes lying around, because thats kinda what the site is about.

http://www.netsoc.tcd.ie/~skanger/main.html to get past the password thing

Ps I've never touched html or javascript before in my life. It works on firefox, which is all I care about.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,314 ✭✭✭Nietzschean

they only need to be +r if you want someone to be able to see their contents, you can do your entire site without any directories +r. Though you need the +x's

I probally have notes on 3d1,3d3,3d4,4d2 and 4d4 around somewhere, i'll have a looksee later
