can a faulty/worn out motherboard battery cause a computer to ( the computer is about 1 ½ years old)

    a. when you press the power button, the button eliminates but the computer does not get any power
    b. when you press the power button, the computer turns on but cuts out after the bios self-test screen
    c. when you press the power button, the computer turns on but cuts out at the windows xp splash screen.

The thing is, I’m look at a computer at the moment and the three things above kept happening so I turned off the power, removed the battery on the motherboard, didn’t replace it and the computer is working fine now???

    All because of a battery??

    cheers
    paul

Not sure if the motherboard battery would be the cause of it, sounds like more a power supply issue. Those batteries normally last longer than 1 1/2 years I think. Just to make the sure, the battery below is the one you are talking about?

I have heard of one instance where you could run a computer without the CMOS battery but you are going to have to reset the date/time and perhaps other settings when the computer is powered off and on again. They cost no more than a quid to get a new one.
