i have a wee bass practice combo. when i switch it on it just buzzes very loudly, turning knobs or kicking it has no effect. in layman's terms, its bollixed.
what is likely to be causing this? is it fixable? how?

    thanks.

Unfortunately, about 90% of amp problems result in some kind of buzzing. In technical terms, your amp is bollocksed.

If you play a guitar through it does any sound get through?

If so you may be in a healthier position...

no guitar coming through. all i get is a very loud drone type sound in Eb...
is it just a case of remove the back and see if any connections are gone?

Serious Warning: I'm no expert but I do know that amps have capacitors which can store a potentially lethal charge of electricty for many hours or even days after they were last plugged in. Be very careful.

One thing to try would be to see if the input jack has gone and shorted something - resolder it.

Buy another amp and use that broken amp to set up a drone and play all your songs in the same key around it.

Finding out the source of these problems is a bit of detective work.

If the volume knob has no effect on the sound, and the guitar doesnt get through then the problem must lie in the power amp side, and not the preamp.
    As for the buzzing...
Well, it could be a cap that needs replacing, or possible a component thats loose, maybe a transistor is gone...
    :)
Lots of possiblities that cant be diagnosed without the amp.
You could take a look yourself for any obvious loose or burnt components.
After that I guess you need to bring it to someone to fix it.
