rounding of playing handicap

if exact hanidcap is 8.5, what is the playing hadicap, 8 or 9?

I reckon, according to CONGU, that it should be 9, but my club insists that it should be 8. Seems a bit odd, as another guy in the club has an exact handicap of 12.5 yet has a playing handicap of 13!

It amazes me the number of golfers that don't know how this works!

You start the month on 8.4 - playing 8

If on the 18th of the month you get 0.1 back you go to 8.5 playing off 8.
On the 24th of the month you get 0.1 back again, you go to 8.6 and play off 8.

On the first day of next month your handicap is subject to an up-revision. So now you are off 9.

So assuming you are 8.5 today and don't get cut, you will be off 9 on the 1st October.

I was in a similar position and this is what I was told, I think it is right but will stand corrected if not!

If your handicap today is 8.5, then you play off 8 until the end of the month. Then at end of the month if it is still 8.5, then you go out to 9, i.e. the change occurs at the end of the month.

    hope this helps

Is it the same for down-revving.....e.g. you start the month at 8.5 (playing off 9) then get cut to 8.4, do you immediately start playing off 8 or wait until the following month?

ALL handicaps are adjusted at the end of the month.

    This is wrong.

If you are cut to 8.4 for example your new handicap takes effect immediatley.

agreed. losing .1, .2, .4. play off lower handicap immediate effect

gaining .1, wait til end of month before playing off new increased handicap

This thread fascinates me. Out of the posters, two do not appear to know how to adjust their handicaps properly.

    Slumped,

In fairness, a silly comment! So what if people are not sure on the exact rules, that's why people ask questions!!!!!!!

Your answers are helpful, but comments like this are just plain stupid!
