Shedding hair, why?

For the second year in a row, I am losing hair, not clumps as such but shedding quite a few, every time I run my fingers through, some hairs fall out. Apparently, I was low in iron last year but it did take months for the hairloss to end... so I' m actually wondering if it's normal to shed hairs at a certain time of the year (last year it was august, this year it started in September). has anyone else experienced the same?
(i am going for a blood test anyway to check iron levels, although i eat enough red meat and get enough vitamin c to help absorption)

Stress can be a big factor in it I believe, emotional and physical.

I molt, all the time! But it doesn't come out in 'lumps', just a few here and there. I don't think anything of it, my sister was/is the same.
I heard, that blondes shed/molt alot more then brunettes or red heads. Is this true or is this some silly nonsense that I've managed to pick up somewhere or other?
Tbh, I think it's just old hairs coming off, but good luck with your blood test all the same,
    Matty

OP, do you brush your hair? If you don't, it's perfectly normal for lots of strands to come out when you run your fingers through your hair, or else if it's knotty.

that started hppening to me last year.if you tie your hair back a lot it could be tension alloplecia all ya have to do is leave it down and if you have to tie it up leave it looser.unfortunatly i didnt notice in time so that it'll take a few years to get back to its full thickness.itsstill thick though!

Its normal for someone to lose 50 strands of hair a day

But if you're worried, you may actually be goin bald

    ask a hairdresser or somethin

Hair goes through growth stages, and when its switchin from a rest stage to a growing stage, you lose mmore hair than usual

Like, when you start using Regaine, you lose more hair for a while, because its kick-startin the growth cycle

    Hope that helps

    Good luck :)

OP: Are you losing lots of hair but does it still look and feel like you have plenty of hair on your head? If so don't stress. This simply means that the cycle of hair growth is high and this is a healthy thing.
It usually happens to me at the change of seasons. Friends look at me in shock when they see me pull handfulls of hair from my head almost daily - especially when I'm not worried!

It's actually the norm to lose up to 200 hairs a day.

Periods of stress can cause hair loss. My hair became thinner in the months after my mum got seriously ill, they grew back.

Since you're getting the blood test for iron levels anyway, get them to do a thyroid panel too, if they are not already doing one. Excessive shedding is a very common symptom of thyroid disease.

It's common to shed a lot of hair at certain times of the year, so don't worry unless you notice it becoming very thin as that means no new hair is growing.

Everyone also go through hair cycles every couple of years which can last for months when your body renews your hair by shedding old/tired hair so during those periods you might notice more hair loss than normal.

Being on the contraceptive pill can also affect hair loss, especially if you've just started it or have moved to a new type. It's to do with the hormones and once they've settled down again it will stop.

If you hold back your fringe you should see shorter hairs there - The regrowth of the hairs that are falling out.
