    Hi All,
Got a G5, trying to burn a dvd of an imovie project...managed it but then my dvd player says "unrecognisable disk"...I'm a novice at this, is it the type of disk? Or the imovie format? Or my dvd player? HELP!!!!

I'm not going to be able to completely help you.
But most importantly - from what I gather, the software is not your problem.

    Questions:
    1) Is it an in-built CD/DVD drive or an external one?
    2) Your DVD player is not saying "unrecognisable disk", your software is. Have you tired a different brand of DVD in the same drive?
    3) Have you used the same DVD on a different computer?

    S.

What type of disc did you put in DVD-R, DVD+R etc? Also, what type of Mac and which version of OS X do you own? I'm presuming your Mac does have a superdrive.

Yup. Some of the older drives in mac only do -R, not +R.

Also, I recommend this, because I find CD/DVD burning in OS X to be less than satisfactory.

Some of the older writers ( like on my old iMac G4) only worked with DVD-R and if you used the DVD+R it would damaged the writer. My G5 iMac and MBP both have the newer Mat****a writer that will do it all. The only thing that sucks though, is the app Mactheripper will only work with a set region on the Mat****a.

Thanks guys, still confused here but yes my mac has a built in superdrive and OS X 10.4.7...using dvd-r, will try a different brand tomorrow...the dvd I burned will not work in any dvd player, I tried 3 different ones. Can anyone tell me should I be "ripping" the files, this is adding to my confusion...thanks again.

This is an iMovie project that you created and then moved into iDVD for burning right? If yes, how long did it take to encode and write to the disc?

Open the disc on your mac and tell us what you see. There should be at least 1 folder called VIDEO-TS or similar. Let us know.

You can use iDVD which came with your Mac or use my personal favorite Toast http://www.roxio.com/enu/products/toast/titanium/overview.html?ccid=google&o_e25=Paid%20Search&gclid=CIKxqqf41IcCFRY2QgodUn8_oQ

Thanks for that bud but let's just say I want to copy a dvd using iDVD how do I go about it? (sorry but I haven't a clue)!

iDVD is for creating DVD movies from scratch. To copy a DVD you will need:

    DVDtoOne

    or

    Mac the Ripper

    or

    Visual Hub

All of these will allow you to copy a DVD but DVD2One is IMO the best.

Have heard of quite a few people using Mac the Ripper which is free, the other two are trial versions only and require payment after short period.
