anyone know why setanta bothered to buy the champions league when they dont even block sky from showing the same match as them. I thought have irish rights so unless sky exercised their muscle it seems a waste of money. I know they are available via ntl etc. and that could be the reason they bought it but at least they should have blocked sky from showing the same match.

As far as I am aware it is next season the new agreement comes in where Sky and Setanta have all the rights. ITV and Sky still have control in the UK. Setanta are just showing one of the 6 games Sky are also broadcasting live tonight as they also did last night.

Just for info the Chelsea game is blocked on Setanta Ireland for UK viewers not ROI veiwers.

thats for the premier league. the champions league deal starts this season. rte have first choice setanta second choice for ireland. strange how they dont insist on sky blocking the coverage though to ireland.

Well they better improve the technical presentation, two weeks ago the sound was down a 60s bakelite phone and tonight the picture quality was ropey.

OK! I stand corrected on the rights issue. My appologies!

Tonights Chelse game was away! I found the picture and sound quality on Sky Sports Extra and Setanta the same. Probably because both had to take the transmisson from the service provider. I remember during the world cup and particularly the BBC mentioning 'their own camera' covering some aspects of a particullar game.

Correct me if I am wrong but any 'away' games coverage are provided by a TV company of that country. You really cant blame Sky or Setanta for problems. I suppose I beter check out HD coverage. If Sky show an 'away' game in HD it throws my theory out the window. There was a major incident in the Inter Milan v Bayern Munich game. If Sky were in control off trannsmisson we would have had 25 different camera views. All we had was one!

Bloody hell! I can remember the only coverage we had was BBC Radio 2 on 1500 metres Long Wave radio. It hs come along way since then!
