    Hi all,

I just got myself a DS and im trying to connect it to my wireless network. Im with Eircom and im using the router they gave me. Its a Netopia 2247NWG router.

I have WEP enabled on my router and when I try to connect to my network after entering the correct WEP key it gives me this error:

    Error Code: 52001

Unable to obtain an IP address. Move within range of the access point or check DHCP settings.

Now when I disable WEP security on my router so that it has no security then it still doesnt work and I get effectively the same error.
    Error Code: 52002

Unable to obtain an IP address. Move within range of the access point or check DHCP settings.

Do you guys have any idea how to get past these problems.

I have searched the net with no luck and its beginning to annoy me because I want to be able to use my DS to play online.

    Thanks

I presume DHCP is enabled on your router? You're also not blocking wireless access by MAC by any chance?

Yeah I definitely have DHCP enabled and I dont have MAC address security enabled either.

I dont understand what the problem is.

Sorry mate you can't use nintendo wifi with the netopia routers :(

I'm not sure the exact reason why but they just don't work.
I had to get a new router to play online with it.
An option is to buy one of those dongles but that is extra expense for you.

    So you have 2 options then ;
    • A new router
    or
    • A dongle

Ah your having a laugh! I thought might be the case. Bloddy eircom can do nothing right.

Whats this dongle thing your talking about?

I'm not sure it will help but how about turning on broadcast of your SSID if it isn't already broadcasting? I noticed some issues with the SSID being hidden when I was playing around with wireless on the ds.

On Linksys you need to drop the base rate to 1mb (can't recall of the top of my head) so maybe the Netopia has something similar ?

    11mb I presume you mean? 802.11b? The DS-LIte only does 802.11b wireless.

I have a linksys router and it works in mixed mode with the DS happily enough.

You can check on nintendowificonnection.com or something similar (google is your friend) and they have a list of compatible routers and work arounds in the forums for some routers.

Hmmm, that's weird; I have the standard Eircom wireless router too, and my DS Lite connects to it with no bother. I have WEP switched off, but MAC address filtering turned on. I don't recall having to do anything other than add the DS's MAC address to the list, but it's been quite a while since I set it up. I'll check my settings when I get home and post again if I notice anything else.

yeah i had this problem, took me about a year to get it working but i finally did. you need to manually put in all the codes (DNS, Subnet Mask, etc) but when you're putting in the I.P. adress change it from 192.168.1.2 to 192.168.1.3. that should do it, if not i'll check mine again, (my DS is in another room and i'm not getting it!!!) let me know if it works cause it annoyed me for so long
