dvd drive not spinning up

    i opened up a mates samsung sdg-605 dvd-rom as the tray would only eject manually.but tray opened no problem as you left a disc in the tray.i did not take apart any internal parts of the drive. did not solve eject error but after reassembly the dvd-drive does not spin up or laser move along track. dvd was working fine till i went at it :( ,reading discs etc. is there anything i could try to get it working again or is it a lost cause.

    Sounds fooked. Make sure IDE cables/jumpers/molex power connectors are seated right, that the devices are in the right order on the cable,the usual stuff.

    Personally, I wouldnt bother replacing it. Mod it, bang in a cheap 80GB HDD, copy the games/movies/whatever over to the disk and run them from there. CDs/DVDs are a pain in the arse anyway.

    its from a friends modded crystal xbox. was careful taking the drive apart,maybe not careful enough though.i am gonna try to mod the samsung sd-616 pc dvd-drive to an xbox samsung sdg-605. the 616 is not used now so its worth a shot.
