cat5 for xbox on network

Hi, I'm just wondering what's the best way to connect my xbox which will be used to stream music, divx through xbox media centre to my pc upstairs. Up until now I've just slung a crossover cable over the staircase whenever I connected to xbox live. This is no longer feasible though as I'll want it to be an always available connection.
Ideally what I'd like to do is run the crossover cable through the wall from upstairs to the living room which is directly beneath.
Are there endpoints available for the two points in the walls that I could then connect with short cables from pc to wall and then wall to xbox? Would this reduce the quality of the signal? Also just wondering if Cat5 would amount to the same thing?

I'm getting an electrician around tomorrow evening to give me an estimate on a few plug points and new phone points I want to put in, it would make sense to do this at the same time so I'd like to know what I'm talking about with the guy and if it's possible or not.

    Cheers

Having proper terminations on your cable should improve the connection if anything.
Most electricians will run Cat 5 cable if you ask them to but won't terminate the connections (some will). You'll need a network technician to terminate the connections if the electrician doesn't know how.

cheers Mark, so the Cat5 is basically the same thing as crossover? Any idea what the cost of running it through the wall and doing the terminations would come to?
