Im going into Sociology and Social Policy, and Philosophy.

I know nothing other than that my fees have been accepted. I've recieved nothing of major relevance from Trinity, so I've a coupla questions, if anybody would be so kind as to answer them...

Where and when do you register? I know you get yer student card when you register..

Do you get a book list ?

Where are all the induction lectures and stuff like that? I've been in college before and missed them all the first week, so it took me a while to actually get on the register and get my card and all that. I wouldnt like this to happen again.

I'd be surprised if your questions haven't already be answered quite recently on this forum.

You should have recieved a piece of paper explaining when and where you have to register. It will be probably Wednesday or Thursday next week, and will take place in the exam hall. The exam hall is one of the buildings in front square (go through front arch it's on your right, probably be a queue outside).

You won't get anything related to academia at registration. You'll get some info about the health service and stuff like that, your student card and your password and username for using the computers.

Stuff like book lists and things like that will come from your department if they come at all. You probably won't get a book list. You'll get your timetable either from your department office or online at the webportal which will give you info about your induction lectures if you have any.

I don't ttink I've been particularly helpful, perhaps someone else from your course on this forum might have more specific answers.

Pick up a timetable from your Dept. office - don't know where yours is, sorry!

Beyond that, if it's anything like our first week, you'll get a big course booklet sometime during the first week of lectures.

Sociology and Social Policy and Philosophy: is that possible? SOCSPOL isn't part of the TSM programme, is it?

SocSocPol isn't on the TSM list, it's direct entry listed on the CAO taught by the Faculty of Social & Human Sciences, course TR083 p96 of prospectus.

Then it's surely impossible to do Philosophy with it?

Postgrads today who were registering received a green card - different from the green of 2002/3.

Yeah it is impossible. OP, did you mean to say that you're doing Sociology and Philosophy?

Do PGs not have a different colour to UGs? I thought they did for the last few years, maybe I'm wrong though ;)

No, I'm sure that they had the same ones! Unless they randomly decided to change them, but why order in more than one colour of a student card?

Fair enough, anything is better than pink anyway! I'll never forget the time I had the piss taken out of me in Busaras because of that pink card - bad memories :(

    Ooh, green :)

Bit lighter. My friends were crest-fallen when I didn't bring home a Protestant orange Trinity card, oh well!

I knew I was in Trinity today when the first guy I saw on campus was sporting a cravat. I'm not in Kansas anymore!

If you'd been in trinity two years ago, youd've seen protestant orange ;)

also, the new student travel cards are nice

Heh, would have preferred pink tbh, it goes with anything!

Registration was blissfully painless for postgrads actually, only took about 20 minutes. Hope this is a sign of things to come.

registration for postgrads was by far teh longest i've had in my 5 years, queue's for everything were longer....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,186 ✭✭✭✭Sangre

Really? Went in quite early myself though, forgot I didn't have to contend with undergrads (also had to get for study :/)

My bloody forms still haven't been processed and I should have them by "next week". That's what I was told last week too. It's hardly that difficult to get to the "print" button. They're eventially gonna get tired of me ringing them. Also I'd better be getting paid this month and if I don't, I'm blaming admin.

Uh, I got mailed telling me my registration was on friday at 3-4, but the pdf on the website says that registration for my course is on thursday. Any idea which one I should believe?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,452 ✭✭✭Time Magazine

    PDF probably. What's your course?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,279 ✭✭✭DemonOfTheFall

What exactly do you have to bring to registration?
My fee payment receipt is at home and itd be a pain if i had to get it. Its been more than 2 weeks since it was paid. Im staying up in dublin for Histeria 2nite, and I register 2moro, so it would be a pain going home to get it.(45 mn on train each way)

The trick to all burocracies is to go there in person. A phone call can be ignored, but it's difficult to ignore someone standing at your desk. Bring a book, and act really cheerful/carefree if they ask you to wait. Occasionally make annoying noises and get in people's way so that they want to get rid of you. Good luck! :D

Did you pay online, or at the bank. I know that unless something's gone wrong, you won't need anything if you've paid online - I think that you need bank records if you did it the other way though. If there's a problem, just head to a net cafe and print the email confirmation.
