Slowly but surely I'm getting used to the EOS350D, although my lunchtime excursion to the botanic gardens for some macro shots was bit of a washout... should have brought the proper tripod instead of the baby one

I'm also new to the digital medium and the post processing of images in photoshop and was wondering if people have certain routines that they apply to all or most images. At the moment I only crop and resize and sometimes a little rotation to straighten the horizon. Are there any other 'standard' routines I can apply to optimize my pictures for the digital medium? perhaps brighten colors a little, sharper lines? etc?

As well as your cropping and straightening, basics would be levels/curves, hue/saturation, and some sharpening. Most of what I do is a variation on the above to varying degrees...

P.S. The video tutorials on www.radiantvista.com are ideal for that stuff, they do go into quite a bit of detail so don't be scared off! You can also check out the masses of tutorials on the luminous landscape site, especially for sharpening techniques, and a thing called 'local contrast' which is great, in certain situations. Best just to go do some reading up.
