Had a windows Millenium Edition(i know) Pc a few years back but it gave up on me a couple of years ago and failed to re-boot and to be honest it wasnt worth paying the money to get it fixed as pc's laptops had dropped so much in price, now im just wondering is their anywhere that you can bring a Pc's hard drive to get the contents from it for a decent price as i have lots of photos i would really like to retrieve on it?

Assuming the hard drive is in working condition then I'd imagine nearly any PC repair shop would be able to pull your files off of it.

Do you have/have access to another PC?

If so you can just take the drive out of the pc and add it as a slave drive on the other pc.

What marcphisto said. This is a handy enough job. Depending on where you live, I'm sure a nearby boardsie would do it for you. Otherwise any tech shop can help you.

^^^ what they said, or if you don't have access to another PC, you can use a live Linux CD, like Knoppix

It is very easy to switch the hard drive to another PC, just use the jumper cables at the rear of the drive. Set it to Slave (normally marked SL) and pop in the drive and get the data off it, just make sure to set it back to Master (MA) when moving it back to the original system.

If you now have a laptop and want to copy off all the content of your old disk then a USB hard disk caddy could be used to connect the disk via USB port on the laptop. Also, something cheap like this USB-IDE adapter on ebay would do the job too. Alternately, just use someone else's computer if you can. Obviously you'll need DVD or CD writer to get all the data on to, or a big enough memory stick.
