Are there any install folks near Macroom who have experience in SKYDSL sat bb installations? I'm at my wits end trying to get the damn thing to work, and am close to ripping the whole thing down off of the gable wall and hurling it down a ravine!

I've got perfect sat tv on my PC but no broadband.

A reply to my post in BB forum pointed me in this direction, so hopefully somebody can help.......

Thats' why it doesn't work. If the dish picks up BBC/ITV it is pointing at the wrong satellite!

    http://www.satcure.co.uk/tech/skydsl.htm

SkyDSL is nothing whatsover to do with Sky / BSkyB TV

3.3 Can I use a single multifeed satellite dish to use skyDSL and watch TV ?
No. A multifeed dish can only receive signals from two or more satellites if the difference of orbital position of these satellites is < 6°. Relevant TV satellite positions are: Astra 19° east *, EUTELSAT Hotbird (TV) 13° east.
The skyDSL satellite is on 8° west which means that the angle difference is well above the acceptable value of 6°.
*This orbital position refers to the zero meridian (Greenwich meridian). Please refer to your user manual for the elevation and azimuth of the skyDSL satellite.

3.4 I am using a twin-feed antenna to receive both Astra and EUTELSAT. Can I use the EUTELSAT receiver for skyDSL?
No. A multifeed antenna can only receive signals from two or more satellites if the difference of orbital position of these satellites is < 6°. Relevant TV satellite positions are: Astra 19° east *, EUTELSAT Hotbird (TV) 13° east. The skyDSL satellite is on 8° west which means that the angle difference is well above the acceptable value of 6°.
Such a receiver system can only be used for skyDSL if you do not need it anymore for TV reception. In this case simply readjust it to the skyDSL satellite. You will however need to install an additional receiver system to both watch TV and use skyDSL.
*This orbital position refers to the zero meridian (Greenwich meridian). Please refer to your user manual for the elevation and azimuth of the skyDSL satellite.

With a 95cm you can just about get 5E(sirus) to 28E(Sky) on multilnb. Only a Toriodal dish will allow 8W and Sky.

    See http://www.lyngsat.com/ab2.html for TV channels
12566 V 27500 Arab channels is the only TV you should get on the correct satellite.

    Thanks Watty.

Very helpful point re picking up BBC etc and pointing at the wrong satellite.

One further question if I may........

The last guy who was out (sky digital installer), replaced my lnb with one from his van. Could this cause a problem? I'm guessing it's one that's used for sky digital

    Thx

The LNBs are all the same. Unless very old ( > 6 years).

Sky DSL is available on E-Bird 33E as well as 8W
So a multifeed antenna could be used for SkyDsl and Sky TV.

    Thx again.

Local sat install guy is trying to get his hands on the Eurobird 33E code, so that he can enter into his sat finder. Nobody he know's has them.

Can I ask......if my dish is currently pointing at Eurobird 1 at 28.5E, do I move the dish clockwise or anticlockwise to reach 33E?

Transponder frequenceys should be in your skydsl documentation or try lyngsat.com.

    Move dish more east.

11.513 GHz, H, 30,000 are the tuning details for SkyDSL on 33E.

With the dish already pointing at Astra 28E, get a marker or Tipex and mark off the up/down angle for the dish and the left/right position. That way you have something to come back to if it messes up.

Lower the dish by 2 degrees by watching the elevation markings on the back of the dish bracket. Then very slowly move the dish east while watching the signal meter in the software package.
