I've recently settled on Business Information Systems as my course of choice as it looks to combine my two main talents into one nice, properous degree.

UCC will most likely be my first choice with it being only an hour and a half away from me but it will be touch and go as to whether or not I can attain the 400 odd points for the course, therefore NUIG will probably be my second choice as the points I understand are considerably lower for the NUIG variant of the course. I would be very grateful if someone who's presently doing the course could give me the lowdown of what to expect of it in terms of the quality of it etc.

Unfortunately, anyone I speak to has little or no idea about how Galway is like. The most I've been able to gather is that Galway is apparently the "ultimate student city" but apart from that I don't know what Galway has to offer in terms of facilities etc so I would appreciate it if anyone could try and persuade me that Galway would be worth the 4 hour journey.

I'm not in BIS myself but I did Commerce and picked the IT stream so I do most of the same subjects. I'm doing an e-commerce post grad now. I know loads of people in BIS final year, it sounds good. I know the mix of business and computers sounds good, but the business subjects are... I dunno, a lot of bull**it in 'em.

I go boating with a guy who got a degree in some form of BIS a few years ago and now works in NUIG. He seems to be pretty happy with it and is obviously earning a few quid as he has a lovely house and a nice speed boat :)

I'm currently studyin BIS in NUIG. In the 2nd year of the course and so far it's going pretty well. The IT and Business combination works quite well. The business subjects can be fairly boring but ya deal with that side of it. A new Business & Public Policy building has just been built in the last year in the college and that's where BIS basically runs from, with most of the lecturers having their offices there. Anybody who's been out there will tell you that the building is top quality with second to none facilities, so that's another bonus.

Another thing about BIS is the fact that the employment opportunities are serious when you graduate. On the 3rd yr of the course, students go on work placement. There's a massive surplus of companies looking for people from BIS to work for them, even on the placement period! So that's quite reassuiring to know. The structure of the course is set up for you as a graduate to look impressive and have an impressive CV.

As far as NUIG goes as a college, I'm happy there, and I would recommend it to anybody. Nightlife is cool, people are cool and there's just a general good vide from the college and the city in general.

    Hope this helps ya out!
