I'm heading up myself anyway, I really think that anybody who is free and has the bankroll to go should make the trip. I know that if Stephen and Julie get this thing going it will be great for poker in Ireland, and if they get a decent number for their first tournament it should take off.

Whoever's free should really make the effort for this one, it will definitely be worth it for all of us if this takes off.

As long as you aren't playing Steve, I'll be there. The fecker was sitting to my left in cork. Somehow, he figured out my weak/passive game and destroyed me.

Lol, weak passive?....I thought you were going to kill me.

    Cheers Lyonzy,
    See you there.

    Stephen,

Are you committed to the buyin figure of 500 and confident that this will be a success? If numbers were not quite what you expected have you any plans at this moment to downgrade these to 300+30 (for example)?

Don't get me wrong, I really hope these are a success as we need good, well run poker tournaments around the country, and from the few times I have met you I know you to be a decent lad (and not a tenth as eccentric as looseme - a top man too by the way) who knows his stuff about the game.

I fear though that if you are getting around 30-50 consistently this is a dangerous number which could either snowball into something bigger or fade away, whereas if numbers were consistently 70+, as I feel they would be for a well run, well located 300 game, it could be a better platform to expand from.

I am just mostly putting down what is in my head here, and I know you have done the maths on probably conservative figures at first and decided it can be done, but I'd like to know mostly are there any 'emergency' plans in case of smaller than hoped for numbers over time?

    Hi 5star,

No, we are not committed to the figure of €500 and no, we are not confident at all (we are just hopeful), but don't worry we're not in it for the short term.

When we decided to form Poker Ireland we did a lot of thinking. We asked ourselves what kind of tournament would we like to see running and based on what a lot of players were saying we decided to start off running €500 freezeouts.

We, here in Ireland, are perfectly positioned to be the centre of the Poker World but I think that we have to start somewhere and we need to be organised.

I think from this that you can see that Julie and I are thinking really big in terms of Irish poker, but you have to start somewhere.

I know that €500 excludes a lot of people but we wanted to offer something different and we wanted to start off with small enough numbers (to be honest) so that we could run a better quality tournament.

A lot of players have expressed concern about the size of the €500 buy-in.
Of course we're going to listen to what players want and cater to that.

We're in this for the long term to see the sport develop and we'll keep working away at that. I hope you will probably see us running both bigger and smaller buy-in tournaments in the very near future.

I should make the point too that there are loads of really good tournament organisers around the country that are doing a great job. Its not the end of Irish poker if nobody turns up to our events, lol.

    Cheers.

I'll be thier after the satelite success. Just happens to be my home town as well :)

Carfax ... i would say thier seems to be very little knowledge around Dundalk of this tornament. I know from mentioning it around the casino the other night no one seemed to know it was on !!

On a side note cash game on sunday in Dundalk ..... two guys pot it back and fourth between them and get it all in preflop for a pot of 1000+ one of the them turns of 2,3 off suit other one turn over pocket 5's and takes it down !!!!!!!

    Hi John,

Yes we should have been a lot better as regards promoting the tournament around Dundalk itself but we did concentrate on making sure that every player from surrounding counties knew about it.

There will be a good few Dundalk players coming along beforehand to play €50 single table satellites which we are running from 6pm.

    Thanks,
    Stephen.

I know I might regret this but I'm going to ask Boyles to open a book on this event tomorrow.

45-50 players are expected for this event.
Not all of the players listed are confirmed and a lot of confirmed players are not listed (I've just misplaced my notes)
Please don't take offence if I've priced you as an outsider. And please feel free to ask for a price for any player not listed.

    1. David O'Callaghan 6/1
    2. Ivan Donnaghy 8/1
    3. Patrick Mc Fadden 9/1
    4. Joe Rafferty 9/1
    5. Flipper Walsh 9/1
    6. Thomas Nolan 9/1
    7. Paul Leckey 9/1
    8. Con O'Sullivan 9/1
    9. Craig O'Brien 12/1
    10.Micky Mc Closkey 10/1
    11.Collette Harvey 10/1
    12.John O'Callaghan 12/1
    13.Eoin Lyons 12/1
    14.Ricky Cosgrove 12/1
    15.Oscar Fred 10/1
    16.Brendan Mc Kenna 16/1
    17.David Whittaker 20/1
    18.Leslie Mc Lean 20/1
    19.LuckyLloyd 14/1
    20.JP Whyte 14/1
    21.Terry Kavanagh 20/1

Win only, dead heat rules apply in situations where deals are done.
The idea of this book is simply to give people an interest/fun bet.
The biggest bet allowed will probably be to win €500.

All this is subject to Boyles opening a book on it and if they do I will post here.

Prices apply to the Poker Ireland €500 + €35 freeze-out which takes place this Friday September 29th in the Fairways Hotel, Dundalk, Co. Louth, 8pm start.

    Thanks,
    Stephen.
