Dell Repair Costs - Water Damage

    Hi,

I just got off the phone with Dell about sending in my Inspiron for repair after having some trouble with the touchpad.

The touchpad is completely f*&#ed after spilling some water on it when I was in a bit of a drunken stupour - I managed to clean the water up with some tissue (it had pooled in the touchpad recess) before passing out, but when I went to use the laptop the next morning, the touchpad buttons didn't work. The actual touchpad will work for moving the mouse pointer, but the left and right click buttons don't work anymore, neithe does the scroll part of the touchpad.

So after getting on to dell, they've said to send it back to them for repair. I didn't mention anything about the water incident, but I figure it'll be pretty obvious what's causing the problem when they try to fix it. So can anybnody tell me what kind of costs I'm looking at paying to get it repaired (the keyboard works perfectly, so it's probably just a matter of replacing the touchpad. It's still under warranty, but as I said, it probably wont be covered.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

You could just buy a mouse.

Leave the laptop in your hotpress over night, that should evapourate any excess water left in the machine (if any).
Send it back to Dell and let them fix it under warranty as they have no way of proving it was your fault....I wouldn't worry too much about it..

Sound advice, you may find it could possibly resolve itself if you do this.
