Sky wiring??

Hi recently had sky installed in a new property and was informed that now you need to be wired up direct to your phone line? Had sky before and they just gave you a cable to plug in if you wanted to be interactive. Guy who did the installation did a pretty neat job considering. However now want to get another sky point upstairs do I really have to have that one in a phone point as well? is there no other option??

any help greatly appreciated.

If you are going to be using this as a mulitroom box with a mirror sub then both boxes must be connected to the same operational landline, if you are just using as a FTA or FTV box then there would be no need to connect the second box to your phone line.

thanks digidec - can you tell me what I would need to do? Presume I would need to buy a box and an FTV card is that right? Really no good on this hi tech malarky!

You only need FTV card for C4 and Five, see ICDGopedia for free channels.

You can use a Sky digibox (BBC / Sky interactive works, no manual tuning needed and program guide) or non-Sky sub €100 FTA box which will do everything else better than a Sky box.

If you are getting a Sky subscription for ONE digibox you can pay about 38 Euro extra to NOT have phone line connected.

Yes you could buy a new digibox and get a friend or relation in the UK to buy a FTV card or have a look on ebay as many sellers sell a box and card together, but buy with caution form ebay.
