Does anyone know whill Ryanair/AerLingus/BMI etc give you a refund on a ticket, or is it tough if you can't make the flight?

    Ryanair no chance.
You could change the ticket dates but they will charge you for this.
The other two better off checking their T&C.

I know for a fact that Ryanair don't, and often the cost of transferring the ticket to a different date is more than the cost of a new ticket. I believe Aerlingus will refund the tax if you cancel the ticket (they used to anyway). Ryanair don't refund the tax, one of the many reasons I will never use them again.

Its Aer Lingus and they want £50 to change the flight to a later date. Seems a bit steep to me, considering that they can probably now sell it for a lot more than she paid for it when it was booked last week.

It really gets on my nerves when ignorant people make stupid comments.
Can I apply for a refund for my unused flight?
All Ryanair fares are fully changeable flight/dates/times/routes and names (up to 4 hours prior to original flight departure) however fares, fees or charges are non-refundable.Government taxes may be refunded. Ryanair apply an administration charge per person for tax refund requests. If the refund amount due to the customer is less than the applicable refund administration charge then no refund will be made. Tax refund requests must be made within one month from the booked travel date.

How can they sell it for a lot more?

If they sell it the purchaser will be charged 30 euro for the name change, plus the difference between the original flight price and the current flight price.

This is pretty much standard with all the European low cost airlines, of which Aer Lingus is one.

It always amazes me how people agree to T&C of a purchase without reading and understanding them first.

Really?! You mean you always read the T&C's for everything you buy? I certainly don't, although I am well aware of what my rights are and have a fair idea of what the T&C's will be.

Because generally the later you leave it to buy a flight the more expensive the flights gets. If I buy a ticket a month in adavnce for e.g €20, and then want a refund/exchange 1 day before the flight, the airline are not going to put the same ticekt back on sale for €20 if the flight is fully booked, they will charge €100+ like they always do.

Oh please... As Exebec said, no I don't. Really, do you read every work of every legal agreement etc you see before ticking the box? This is a discussion board. Often I will ask questions not only do i can get the answer, but so we can discuss the topic and I (and all the other posters) can learn somehting new.

In fairness to Bluetonic, he answered the question asked.

He was able to answer it because he READS the T&Cs. I also read the T&Cs when I use a site for the first time, for the very reason that I don't want to be caught out.

I don't see that there is a discussion. The question was asked and answered.

If you'd asked for peoples opinions on Airlines' refund policies, that would be a discussion.
