Does anyone know how much second hand records should go for? I know it depends on the style and age but has anyone got any rough guides as to what to charge?

What about classics? How much would they go for normally? Say 5 - 10 years old.

depends on what you call a classic mate...

    depends on genre, condition etc...

if you're selling in dublin, then spindizzy give you a euro per tune, and flog them for 3.99

if you're selling off a bunch of stuff, just spam a few forums and offer them at 4 bucks a pop, 6 if they're more than 5 years old, in good nick, and not likely to get a repress

if you have something that really is a bit rare then search for it on ebay and see what it goes for...

my most valuable tune is worth about £70 to a collector, but if it gets repressed, it's going to be worth sweet feck all again.

what kind of stuff are you selling?

you're talking 50 cent a pop to a euro each TOPS if you can flog them off in bulk...

cheesey music is like cheese mate, nobody wants the stuff that's outlived it's shelf life you know? you want to be very cool in order to be able to preserve yesterday's cheese and not have it smell too bad when you serve it...

A second hand record is worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it.

Where are your so called classics? just cause a song is old doesn't make it good, and i though the def of a classic would be a good old song.

I didn't list all my records because the post would have been too long. Some records would be considered classics to some people. A record I consider a classic might not necessarily be a classic to someone else, it all depends on person's taste.

    PS
If anyone wants the full list please PM me your email address and I'll forward the list onto you.
    Thank you!

In fairness, an easy way to judge if a song is a classic is check how much it's going for on the likes of htfr.com. Granted it's not a definitive way to find out but it's a start. Another way to know is to be into the genre of music for more than five minutes and therefore building up your own knowledge base to use as a guide.

Out of the list that you posted I'd say that there's only about 2 classics there at a push. Granted that there's a few there that I don't know but I could make an educated guess by the artist.

Why don't you post the good stuff (by your own admission) rather than (by your own admission) the cheesy stuff?

You'd have to give me money to take most of those records.

goodluck trying to flog those, you'll need it.

I started off with roughly 800 records and I'm down now to 450(ish) so I don't think I've so bad so far. Everyone's taste is different so I think it's unfair to be saying "Good luck trying to flog those...". What's your taste of music like? I might think it's awful! Of what I've sold so far I've made a good bit of money off them. There are people out there who are willing to pay good money for records they think are classic's or really good tunes. I'd be the first to admit the selection of records I have are...to put it honestly...are CRAP!! But if someone is willing to pay €5 or €6 a record or more then I will sell it to them for that price, the person doesn't have to buy it for that much.

Thanks for your comments so far! Some have been helpful and some...not!!
