Anyone recommend a good value external drive. Looking at getting at least 80GB. Small and reliable is what I'm after:) . Thanks.

Hmm does it have to be USB powered (I guess probably, just komplett have some nice storage devices for cheap)? Komplett have this, Westie 120gb but its 129 eurons. I'll look more later on.

USB powered alone you'll be looking at 2.5". Get an 80 gig 2.5" IDE drive from komplett, and a caddy of ebay.

Slightly o/t but where can I get a cheap caddy to use a 3.5" hd as an external drive? I've looked on ebay / komplett and they seem remarkably expensive for a box with some very simple electronics and a power supply.

Marx Computers have a couple of USB 2.0 for 3.5" IDE devices. Look under the cases->usb/firewire/sata. The cheapest for 45 eurons.

I found that most of the ones on sale on the net are highly overpriced too.
I got one of these from eBay. It's nothing fancy, but relatively cheap. The eBayer was fine to deal with. Think it took about 10 days to get delivered, which I was fine with.

I bought the internal drive from www.elara.ie. They were cheap, coz I was able to pick it up (so no delivery). They're in an industrial estate just off the Nangor Road.

But to the OP pixmania are doing some super deals at the moment.

that pixmania one is nice, and a great price, but it needs to be plugged in. which is a pain.

Thanks all. Just purchased an enclosure off eBay, now to go hunting for a 2.5" hard disk and self build ;)

I like that pixmania deal, too — thanks, johnp. :)

Any of you see any reason not to prefer this one, for €16 less? I mean technical superiority/brand reliability, etc. — I don't care about the icky colours...! :D

Bought an ext. 80Gb 2.5" Western Digital drive somewhere recently. If I can remember where I'll post it up as soon as. Cost EUR66.
