Going off records and your account

    Hey guys,

Just wondering when one goes off record for a year (academic reasons) is there any way for the student to keep their account open (the tcdhelpdesk seem to want to close it for the year) - does this mean I lose the Trinity proxy access privileges, access to the Trinity intranet and my tcd e-mail account?

Also does this mean that my antivirus software (which was installed by the IS services) will be unsupported for the year? Or can I download manual patches?

Main thing I want to keep is the anti-virus update, the internet proxy settings (I'm in a country where many of the websites are censored by the Government - BBC news for one  and boards.ie as another example) and my e-mail account (which has been used for contact with my Tutor and other official business.)

    Appreciate any suggestions!

If you talk to the Junior Dean and the situation is that you are doing something with benefit to college you may be able to keep your email address, proxy access etc but if not I don't think you've much chance. Your email address will keep all your emails, address book etc though and when it reopens in a year they'll all reappear too.

also using unsecured proxies to access websites which are banned in a country may not be the best idea ever...its trivial for your ISP in whatever country to see what sites ur looking at via the tcd proxy...

Not banned... just "unavailable" - though the absolutely unbiased Sky and CNN news are freely available to be read... The authorities are working on a way around the proxies (and I'm sure the people are working on ways around that too) but I just want some quality journalism!

Thanks Andrew83 for the info - is it usual that my student records be removed too? - http://studentsportal.tcd.ie/pls/webapps/tcdadmin.tcd_menu.main?p_system_id=SIS&p_page_id=MAIN_MENU

It seems that my record has disappeared from the UG Student Records page...
