iTunes not recognizing mp3's on harddrive

I'm running the new iTunes 7 on a Windows XP Pro system. I also have a first generation iPod Nano. I used to use winamp to transfer files from my PC to my Nano as it was already on my system, but in seeing the new "album view" in iTunes 7, I decided to give it a shot. So I gave it a go, and imported my extensive music collection already on my computer into iTunes. I did NOT let iTunes sort it for me, because I am very particular about the sorting of my music. Now I run into the problem that not all of my songs will add themselves into the iTunes library. Some albums are entirely missing (and will not add with either of the "add folder" or "add file" functions) and other albums are showing only a few songs. Initially I thought that it was perhaps the method in which I originally ripped my CDs, but that doesn't explain the fact that some songs show up in certain albums. I'm a student and most of my CDs are in storage because I don't have the room for them (not to mention the fact that it would be a HUGE PAIN to have to rip all of my music onto my computer again). Anyone have any suggestions as to what might be causing the problem or ways around it?
