As I write this message, I have my laptop on top of my lap and it got me thinking, is there any danger of burning myself by having this laptop on top of my lap

Just a thought that came to my head.

Not unless it suddenly overheats fairly quickly. Mine has known to get a bit warm but thats about it, just make sure there is enough airflow.

Whats it like to type with the laptop on your lap? Can you use the mouse pad
    alright?

I have mine on a small slab of timber to allow airflow, and the timber on top of a cushion. Handy setup, although I think I've got a few groin/knee injuries :o

That'll do the trick alright, probably much better than my balancing it on two books each side.:p

Not a hope. Unless of course you have one of those laptops that are prone to overheating (some of the Dell/Sony models).

If its a dell, then say goodbye to your legs....

Add the Apple HindenBook to that list.

Most 'laptop' manufacturers actually don't sell 'laptop' computers any more. They deliberately refer to them as 'notebook' or 'portable' computers so they can tell customers who complain abot the heat that they are not meant for laptop us.

Its not your legs that you have to worry about, its your little swimmers.

I use a sort of dinner tray with a bean cushion underneath to fit perfectly on your knees. It was hard to find but finally got one -> pic (Homer is cool, but this is just too camp.....)

hehe, my friend has that cushion too. I use a similar cushion but it still heats up through it. Yeah, it's the reproduction you should be worried about not getting a tan on your thighs;)

Did you not read the danger warnings in the manual?

Burning up the family jewels isn't my idea of a good time!

(Incidentally, it's caused by having your legs so close together to hold the laptop up, not the computer itself)

I use one of those special trays with a built in cushion underneath.... nice and comfy and the laptop gets enough air-flow!
