"That was a misprint on Game Informer’s part. We wanted to clear up that the Wii version (of Call of Duty 3 ) will not have online multiplayer, but is being developed to take advantage of the unique controls and provide an amazing single player interactive experience.”

    that's unfortunate...very unfortunate, i mean ...why?

3rd parties didn't get their hands on the wi-fi dev stuff until very late, so in order to create launch window titles, most proper wi-fi features were left out.

still i'd rather they delay the game until they had a more robust package that would enhance the longebity instead of leaving stuff out to just rush it to market...but ah well, growing trend these days.
It's funny cos normally i wouldn't be all that arsed with call of duty multiplayer, it's more to do with the way you control it on the wii, twould make for an engaging mp experience potentially.

i don't think the method used to connect needs any special programming .. once the code is in for multiplayer over ethernet you tell it to use the active interface.

What I'm wondering is if there is a specific weakness in Wii for online multiplayer ??

Edit .. stand corrected Zabbo is right :

"but IGN has separately learned from multiple development sources that Nintendo will not release Wii Wi-Fi Connection libraries to third parties until early 2007, which means that no third party launch title will have an online mode."

seems as though wii owners will be waiting a while for online multiplayer to take hold on the console.
notthe best news really cos i dont really care for bloody pokemon.

    hmm see here

"Interestingly, reports are making the rounds that online multiplayer gaming on the Wii won't be available until after the first of the year, and maybe even longer for third parties. It's possible that none of the launch titles will be online-enabled. No word on how virtual console title upgrades will be affected, it at all (it's still up in the air how much, if any, Nintendo will update the old games). The other rumor is that a friends code system will still be implemented, perhaps even requiring a unique number for every game, just like the DS."

yeh, not saying its a whopper mistake but it is a little dissapointing, hopefully nintendo will announce in more detail what exactly their online strategy is for games.

Nintendo never offered online play before did they?

It will take them a long time to get servers and whatnot up and running......

I can't honestly see them implementing friend codes again.

They've said that some things you can't do on console that you can do on handheld with regard to online so hopefully they realise they need a proper system for online on a home console.

In any case America gets it first so we'll know before it hits Irish shelves what the deal is.

DS online is handled by gamespy so I imagine Wii's is too so they maybe starting from scratch but the servers are being managed by someone with experience at least.

How fast is 802.11g Wireless equipment?

Because a lot of the games will require low latency (Smash bros) just wont be playable if latency is too high...

P.s I just pinged my laptop and it took 160ms :(

That equip should be more or less perfect for home use. Not sure the reason for the bad ping on your laptop, might be heavy network usage goin' on or even things like thick walls in your house can affect the signal.

Far Cry Vengance is a launch title and is suppose to offically have online mulitplayer deathmatch (chaos) mode.

So I think the online APIs are still being worked on by Nintendo, but becuase ubi is such a big supporter they must have a preview.

I dont mind too much if online games start appearing in 2007 en masse. There is enough for me to play until after christmas. 100+ hours of zelda, probably take me 200 hours if i was to complete it.

Lets hope the flow of games is nice and constant.. I could probably get one a month on the net and trade in an old one to game... Should only cost me 20~30 euro..
