Is there a european driver license that you can apply for . do you have to exchange your irish license for it . does anyone have any information on how to apply for one .

Is there any benefit in having one.

At the moment your Irish driving licence is effective your "european driving" licence as in it's as good as a native licence in the EU country in which you're travelling. There are plans to introduce a common EU driving licence for all member states in the next few years but it's not in yet.

If you want to travel outside the EU, then you can apply for an International Driving Permit.

The IDP is a waste of money imho as the Irish Licence is accpeted almost worldwide for the hire of cars.

Is the EU licence valid for the 20 European countries which are not in the EU?
